of Western Grove, AR

August 26, 1943 - April 19, 2015

Alberta (Choate) Steen, age 71, passed away Sunday evening, April 19, 2015. She was born August 26, 1943, in Mt. Hersey, Arkansas, the daughter of Dewey and Myrtle Choate. At age 17 Alberta married James C. Steen and they moved to the Chicagoland area where they started a family and made their home.

Alberta worked many years at Honeywell. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking large meals and welcomed family and friends into their home at any time. They retired and moved back to Arkansas in the 1990's.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Jay C. Steen; and one brother, Waymon Choate, of Western Grove.

Alberta was a loving mother to Ken (Diane) Steen of Kansas City, Missouri and Sheri(Glenn) Coonts of Jacksonville, Arkansas. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, Krista, Shelby, Taylor and Hannah. She is also survived by her brothers, Joe Choate of Henderson, Nevada and Charles Choate of Harrison; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, April 24, 2015, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Dennis Sisco officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be at Western Grove cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society of Central Arkansas, 1(800) 227-2345.

I went to school with Alberta, she was 1 year ahead of me. She was quite the basketball player and I am sure will be remembered by all. I had lost touch with Alberta thru the years but remember her with fond memories.

My condolences to her family,

Dear Steen Family,
Don and I came to know and love Ms. Alberta during her stay at the Maple Esplanade in Harrison. Don always looked forward to visiting with her while he did her hair. I, as well, enjoyed visiting her on my visits there. She was a wonderful and sweet lady. May God give you peace and comfort during this time and the days to come.

Ken and Sheri,
Although we live many miles apart the loss of Aunt Alberta is a weight upon my heart. I will always remember when we lived closer and the all the times spent at your house. It was always filled with fun, and then there was always something to eat. I think the first words out of Aunt Alberta's mouth when you entered the door was "Well Hi, Come on in......Have you had anything to eat yet? I can't remember ever going to your house and not eating something. All I see now is Uncle Jay and Aunt Alberta walking hand in hand right now. They are as happy as the first day they met.
Their love will last forevermore.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.1 Corinthians 13
We will keep you'all in our thoughts prayers in the days to come. With our deepest love a sympathy.....Rydell and Laura

Sheri and family,
Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you say good bye to your sweet mother. But just know she is no longer suffering which is truly a blessing for her. You have been by her side as she was preparing to leave this world and into the heavenly arms of God. Just know u have another special angel looking out for all of you..

My sincere sympathy to Alberta's family. I too am saddened by Alberta's death. As adult cousins our paths rarely crossed but I've held a special memory of Alberta through out my life. At the ripe old age of four, she became the first newborn baby I had seen. Frankly, I was not impressed by her looks to the point of being surprised by her beauty as she grew up. I hope you are able to smile as you read my sweet memory of her and her mother that day.
