Martha Scoggins Smith, 74, of Oil Trough, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at White River Medical Center.
She was born in Newport, Arkansas on July 27, 1940 to Roy Conard and Ruby Jo (Thrift) Scoggins.
A sweet, kind and loving lady, she liked to crochet, work in the flower garden, and fish. She was a loyal person and helped work on the farm with her husband. She was a member of Pleasant Plains Assembly of God and taught a Sunday School class there.
Survivors include her husband, of 42 years, Vaughn Smith; two sons, Tim Smith of Spring, TX and Earl Crawford of Newport; two daughters, Sonja Stephens of Pleasant Plains and Anita Laidlaw of Grand Rapids, MI; fifteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Wayne Scoggins of Newport and Roy Scoggins of Bald Knob; one sister, Connie Smith of Sherwood; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sons, Rickey Crawford and Billy Crawford.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Crawford, Chris Crawford, Earl Crawford II, Andy Crawford, Billy Crawford, Brandon Ferguson, Allen Cathey and Bradley Cathey.
Honorary pallbearers are Mike Fears, Josh Fears, and Brian Fears.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Plains Assembly of God with Bro. Sherrel Fagan and Bro. Jerry Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at Maple Springs Cemetery in Rosie under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Vaughan and Family: I send to you my deepest sympathy in the loss of Martha. I was only around her a few times, but she was a person that you felt was kind from the inside out. It is good to know of her strong Christian walk. May God give you strength as your mourn her passing.
