Mozelle Lee Yancey

of Harrison, AR

September 2, 1933 - February 7, 2015

Mozelle Lee Yancey, age 81, of Harrison, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015, surrounded by her family at Cox Branson Medical Center in Branson, Missouri. She was born September 2, 1933, at Snowball, Arkansas, the daughter of Charley L. and Nettie L. (McElroy) Casey. Along with her parents, Mozelle was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Anna Casey Rains of Conway, Arkansas and a grandson, Joshua Lee Yancey of Branson, Missouri.

Mozelle worked for several years as a caregiver with Area Agency on Aging and as an inspector for Coke-a-Cola Bottling Company. Ardith and Mozelle were instrumental in preserving Blue Grass Music in the state of Arkansas. They were recognized numerous times by Arkansas Governors as pioneers and leaders in the state's bluegrass music. They also started the Northwest Arkansas Bluegrass Music Festival in 1971 and continued with the festival through 1980, before turning it over to the city of Harrison and Mayor Eugene Martin. The festival continues to be held the same dates in August each year. Mozelle enjoyed crocheting, fishing, and gardening but her greatest enjoyment was always spending time with ''her family''.

Mozelle is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ardith Jack Yancey, of the home; her sons, Jack Yancey and wife Tammy of Jasper, Arkansas and Danny Yancey and wife Pam of Omaha, Arkansas; her granddaughter, Ashley Danielle Yancey and David Clary of Lead Hill, Arkansas; her grandson, Joshua Taylor Lee and wife Brittany of Snowball, Arkansas; her great-granddaughter, Brittany Langdon, of Jasper, Arkansas; and her great-grandsons, Dalton McClung of Marshall and Jaxon and Jase Lee of Snowball, Arkansas.

Mozelle is also survived by her siblings, Douglas Edmond Casey of Dover, Arkansas, Virginia Corine Payne of Harrisonville, Missouri, Charles Deuford Casey of Benton, Arkansas, Robbie Nell Raver of Harrison, Mary Jo Griffin of Snowball and John Thomas Casey of Bryant, Arkansas; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Visitation was Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral service was Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Arlis Burks officiating. Interment is in Snowball Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ted McElroy, Tom Dean, Bob Ruff, Willis Yancey, Tom Raver, and Cody Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Dub Crouch, David Clary, Wayne Massengale, Wayne Smith, Joshua Taylor Lee, Keith Lee, Steve Lee and Steve Bush.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Cox Branson Medical Center Critical Care Unit and Harrison Doctors Kenny Collins, Tom Leslie and their staff for their loving and compassionate care.

Memorials may be made to Snowball Cemetery Fund, c/o Deanna Rushing, 609 Village Inn Road, Harrison, AR 72601.

NATIONAL BLUEGRASS NEWS, 1976

Again, love for the life you can live in God is the only way to have peace and freely give as God has given to you. You don't have to go to the Hall of Fame or to the great islands of some foreign land or remote area to find what I'm
trying to stress to all of you-fans, musicians, promoters. For Ardith and I, we were both raised in the ''back woods'' of Searcy County, Arkansas, working with our hands. The things we were taught then have come to be so precious to us, more than money or fame ever could. I'll never get away from the feeling of just sitting by a small stream of water on a high hillside where no sound is heard but the things of Nature . . . Or just walking through the woods . . Seeing this, one can be seemingly so close to God, it always made me feel like I belonged to the richest man in the world. Truly, I find I do.

Love you all, Mozelle Yancey

At last no more pain. There was never a day I did not see a smile on your face. You had so much love and was so gracious. Everyone you knew received blessings. There was always food and home made gifts with every visit. Im sure your entrance into heaven was filled with bluegrass music and hymn singing. Cant wait to see you there. I love you Aunt Mozelle.

I will greatly miss my great Aunt Mozelle. I have some very good memories of me and her that go way back and even to the past few years, I loved her so much, and Uncle Ardith. I will be praying for the family at this time, words don't do justice to how greatly she will be missed and how much she will never leave my heart. God Bless! Angel Greenhaw Warford
