The life of Verlon Eugene Thompson, age 75 of Conway, ended on Monday December 22, 2014. He was born in Mooreville, Mississippi August 26, 1939 to Charles Lee Thompson, and Madge L. Hood Thompson.
Mr. Thompson retired from Levi Strauss after 23 years of active service as an over the road truck driver, spending a total of 32 years as a long distance driver with various companies. He retired in 1996 due to ill health.
He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother as well as grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Tanner Thompson along with two sons; Gregory Eugene Thompson (Debbie) of Little Rock, AR, Thomas Dean Thompson (Stephanie) of North Little Rock, Ark. Two daughters: Sandra Arlene Scott (Ronald) of Sioux City, Iowa and Sara Janean Francis (Deryl) of Ochelata, OK., Nine grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, Three sisters: Sue Wilson, Laurene Whitley (Francis), Charlene McGill (Doug); Two Brothers, Jackie (Linda), David (Doris). Many Nieces and Nephews and a large extended family and a host of friends.
It was said of Verlon, he never met a stranger and never had an enemy. For a man who started out his work life in the cotton fields of Mississippi, to travel the United States looking from the cab of a Big Rig, he was taught good work ethics early in life and was able to provide well for his family. He was a gentle man who never failed to tell anyone he loved them, and before hanging up from a phone conversation with his family his last words was always, ''I love you''. His wife and children never questioned his love and devotion.
He was a faithful member and Deacon of the Church of God of Prophecy in North Little Rock.
You were an amazing man who left an amazing legacy in your son and his family.

Thompson family, words can not express the sadness we feel for the loss of our dear friend Verlon. As we all know, the kindness and thoughtfulness he had toward everyone was unbeatable. A gentle soft spoken man he was, made it so enjoyable to be around him. His Christian love he shared with everyone was a blessing. We loved him and will miss him. Rest in Peace Verlon, enjoy your reward with Jesus Christ.
