Max Daniel Miller, III of Marianna, AR, born to the late Max D. and Leland Miller on April 25, 1937, passed from this life on October 9, 2014. Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phoebe Taylor Miller, and their 3 children: Max Daniel Miller, IV, Duncan Lamar Miller, and Phoebe Miller Curtis, as well as 8 grandchildren.
Upon graduating from T.A. Futrall, Dan attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA, earning his degree in Geology. Returning to Marianna, Dan became a well-respected pillar of his community and a prominent businessman in his industry. His involvement and accomplishments stretched far and wide. Several of his noted achievements include: member of the Arkansas National Guard, President of Lee County Farm Bureau, chairman of the American Farm Bureau's National Cotton Advisory Committee, Arkansas Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 14 years, President of Cotton Council International for two years, delegate to United Nations Commission on Trade and Development in Geneva, Switzerland, Board of Directors of All Saint's Episcopal School in Vicksburg, MS, President of Miller Lumber Company for 37 years, President of Miller Farms, board member of First National Bank of Marianna, , board member to Lee County Community Foundation, Justice of the Peace for Lee County Quorum Court, and most notably a leader and staple in his beloved church, St Andrew's Episcopal, serving as a Lay Eucharistic minister, vestry member, and treasurer.
Dan was a man of great character. His traits of honesty, commitment, compassion, diligence, and unmoved faith were to be admired. We celebrate his life, we remember his legacy, we honor his character, and we give thanks for his eternal peace.
The service will be held at St Andrew's Episcopal Church, 49 S. Carolina St, Marianna, AR, at 2 pm. We will then proceed to Cedar Heights Cemetery for the burial. Reception to follow at the Millers' home.
Dan took great compassion upon those in need and found joy in providing for others in ways big and small, known and unknown. If you are so inclined to share in his passion, please send a memorial in his honor to one of the following:
