Evelyn Bowers Galloway, of Little Rock, graduated into her life with her Heavenly Father on September 27, 2014. Evelyn was born on October 25, 1918, to James Robert and Aline Esther Bowers in Jasper County, South Carolina.
Evelyn was a graduate of Brunson High School in Brunson, South Carolina, and a veteran of World War II. She served with the Women's Army Corp as a dental technician. While in training at Fort Bliss near El Paso, Texas she met a young soldier named Hermon B. Galloway from North Little Rock, Arkansas. They were married on January 23, 1946, in his hometown.
Evelyn valued education highly and attained her Associate Degree from Little Rock Junior College (now UALR) in 1952 at the age of 33 with a plan to become a teacher. Instead, Evelyn was a dedicated mother and homemaker for her husband and three children, passing on the value of education to them.
Evelyn was a 45-year member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Adult V Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday School and bible studies for many years.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Hermon, her husband of 64 years, two sisters, Frances and Betty Jane, and two brothers, James R. Bowers Jr. and William Bowers.
Her three children survive her: Charles Robert Galloway and his wife JeanBeth Hill, Dr. Marvin Lee Galloway and Gloria Miller, and Louisa Evelyn Galloway. Evelyn is also survived by three grandchildren, Sean Robert Galloway, Sherry Ann McKinney and her husband Leonard McKinney, II, and Shane Harrison Galloway and Chantal Marie Galloway. Also surviving are great grand-children, Brenna Elizabeth Galloway, Kaelen Rose Galloway, Christopher Andrew McKinney, Matthew Thomas McKinney, Victoria Lane, Brittney McKinney, Leonard McKinney III, Jonathan McKinney and Drew Galloway and sister in law Joylea George and many nephews and nieces.
The family would like to express their special thanks to Evelyn's doctors, nurses, and all of the staff members of Fox Ridge Assisted Living on Chenal Valley Drive, especially the caregivers in the Memory Wing of that facility.
Evelyn's nephew, Pastor Daniel Bowers, will officiate at the celebration of Evelyn's life which will be held at Roller Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 6PM to 8PM Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Geyer Springs First Baptist Church, Alzheimer's Arkansas or to the charity of your choice.
