Mary Lee Metzger

of Clinton, AR

July 6, 1922 - September 25, 2014

Mary Lee Metzger, 92, of Clinton, Arkansas passed away on September 25th, 2014 with her family by her side. Mary was born July 6, 1922 in Conway, Arkansas to the late Charlie Wesley James and Minnie Lee Andrews James. Mary was the second oldest of 10 children born to Charlie and Minnie.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Oscar Metzger to whom she was married to for 55 yrs. when he passed away in 1996. Her son Oscar Lee Metzger of Houston, Texas also preceded her in death when he passed in December of 2012 at the age of 69. Tragically Mary also endured the loss of 4 brothers and 3 sisters over the years.

Mary is survived by her daughter Betty White and her husband Earl; both of Clinton, Arkansas, sisters Dean Ellis of Little Rock and Martha Whitlock of Beebe. Also surviving at the time of her death are 6 grandchildren: Sharon Bradley Osborne and husband Gary, Bob Bradley and wife Brenda, Debra Metzger Ayres and husband Gary, Twila Hayward, Jennifer Morrison Jordan and Kristopher Metzger. Mary was blessed with 12 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great Great Grandchildren.

Mary was a very hard worker who retired from Timex Corporation after 37 years of outstanding, dedicated service. Mary's strong work ethic extended far beyond her timecard punches at Timex. Mary's true passion was working for the Lord. One glorious day Mary accepted the Lord into her life alongside her sister Wilma and ever since that day she has been a devout United Pentecostal servant who has spread the word of the Lord and worshiped him faithfully for 69 years! Mary was honored by United Pentecostal Church International with a letter of recognition on November 6, 1999 for being regarded as an excellent prayer warrior as well as a dedicated Sunday School Teacher. Mary was so driven to share her love for the Lord that she traveled extensively looking for any opportunity she could find to stop and minister to others by singing, playing her instruments and preaching to a full congregation when asked. Mary truly lived her life for her Savior Jesus Christ and her family.

We want to thank the Ozark Home Health & Hospice of Conway for the level of care provided during her bout with Alzheimer's.
The family will receive visitors at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, Arkansas between the hours of 1pm to 3pm on Sunday, September 28th, 2014.
Services will be held at Conway United Pentecostal by the Reverend Gene Sorrells and Reverend Larry Pearce at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 29th, 2014.
Internment will take place at the Mayflower Cemetery.

Aunt Mary was a special Christian and my special aunt. Her prayers worked. I could call her about a problem and she would pray with me over the phone. For years people thought my mother , Martha Jean Metzger , were sisters because they were together in church so much. I could say more but we all were touched by her. And her prayers. I'll meet you there Aunt Mary

I never had the honor of meeting this beautiful woman of God in person. I am best friends and went through high school with Debra Metzger- Ayres. I remember the stories Debra would tell about this beautiful woman and how much she loved and admired her. Now as adults, married with children and grandchildren of our own, Debra and I often talk and pray together and our conversation would always include her Grandma Metzger, and how much she loved our Lord and Savior. I know she was a mighty prayer warrior and she kept the enemy on the run! I pray God's peace that surpasses all understanding flood your family, and that our He wrap his loving arms around all of you, hold you close and carry you through this time of loss. I believe with all my heart you will see her again , but for now she is at the feet of The Lord she served and loved for all these years....and I know that day is coming that I Will get to meet her in Heaven!
We are praying for you all, we love you and God bless you always.

Grandmaw Mary, It has been an honor to have even known you; much more to be your grand daughter. You'll never know the influence you had in my life growing up spiritually with the Lord Jesus. I'll miss your soft skin, sweet smell, tender kisses, soft voice, and those fore head rubs you use to give me while laying my head in your lap as we traveled in the car. You've prayed many MIRACLES over me during my life's toughest impossible moments, and the miracles did happen. Your strong unwavering Christian faith has been a rock for me during my sickest times of my stomach disease; and set a strong example for me. I know you were not able to understand that your only son died before you. I know your with him (LEE) and grandpaw (AUSTIN) now. Please give my daddy a kiss for me as I miss him terribly. To my Aunt Betty......you've been astoundingly strong, willing, and lovingly to physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually take on the caregiver role for grandma. THERE IS NO ONE WHO COULD HAVE DONE IT BETTER THAN YOU. and you have your crowns awaiting you in heaven, as you truly honored your mother and father. I love you so much aunty. Most all of this would have been impossible without your dedication. and now I'd love you to come to Louisiana for a short get away, rest, and relaxation when you are ready. Thanks to all my cousins who helped aunty take care of grandma- Sharon, Jennifer and Bobby. Thanks to Earl White for being such an understanding and helping husband to you Aunty, and son in law to grandma, to help you undertake this challenge of caring for her in yall's home. I love you all family and hope to see yall soon one day when Jesus does his next miracle healing on my stomach disease so I can travel. So sorry I couldn't have made it there; but seeing as I was in the hospital, the doctor's, nurse's, and others said NOPE you can not travel that far. Emily I'm going to get you and Nicky together soon sweet child. thanks to the hospice staff and funeral home. with all my love, DEBRA METZGER AYRES, GARY AYRES, RORY LABORDE JR, & NICKY AYRES

I know any words I say cannot convey the sorrow we all feel for Grandmommy being gone. But the joy we can be assured of is that she is now with the Lord that she loved and served for so long. She is happy and healthy and has joined her family that has gone to be with the Lord. I love you all so much. May The Holy Spirit blanket you all with the peace that passes our understanding.

To Betty and all of Aunt Mary's family, I extend my heartfelt sympathy in the loss of one of the greatest Christian women I have ever known. Words cannot describe the Godly goodness of Aunt Mary. I have always looked up to her and felt the power of God she radiated. She truly was and still is a warrior for God. Her smile and sweet disposition are engraved in my mind and she will never be forgotten. I know she and Aunt Pearl are rejoicing; to me they were the dynamic duo (if you needed prayer those ladies could get the message through). I pray now that our hearts will be healed quickly and we will carry on as Aunt Mary would want us to... Living for God, praying for one another and leading the unsaved to God. Missing but rejoicing for my Aunt Mary. Jo Ann

My Dear Precious Ainy you have been called home by our Savior for a great reunion in Heaven. I know you are rejoicing with Uncus and Grandma and Grandpa and all your relatives and friends who were called before you. You are now with God in your heavenly home. I rejoice with you but at the same time my heart aches that I no longer have the benefit of your wisdom. As I try to let go, just know that I love you. I always have. You are my Ainy. You always have been.
