Oscar Leelman, Jr., age 93, of Diamond City, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Hospice House in Harrison. He was born August 11, 1921, in Blind Slough, Oregon, the son of Oscar Leelman Sr. and Annette (Zorgewitz) Leelman. His parents preceded him in death.

Oscar was a member of Lord of the Lake Luther Church in Diamond City. He was a Seaman 1st Class veteran of the U. S. Navy having served from 1941 to 1944 during World War II. He served in the Asian Pacific and European African area on the USS Brastage. He was a power engineer in the paper industry. He had previously lived in Coos Bay, Oregon, Snowflake, Arizona, Ketchikan, Alaska and Crossett, Arkansas. He was a member of the VFW #10417, the American Legion #340, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekkas, Good Sam club and North Arkansas Amateur Radio Society.

Oscar is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy M. Leelman, of the home; his son, Rory Leelman, of Lead Hill, Arkansas; his daughter, Linda Carpenter and husband Preston, of Azle, Texas; his grandsons and their wives, Preston Blake and Lisa Carpenter of Frisco, Texas and Shannon and Erin Carpenter of Lee's Summit, Missouri; and his granddaughter and her husband, Michelle and Juan Herrera, of Harlingen, Texas.

Oscar is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Isabel and Emma Carpenter and Ava and Julian Herrera; and a brother, Arnold Leelman, of Kelowna, British Columbia.



A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Lord of the Lake Lutheran Church in Diamond City.

Private services and interment were held in Dallas, Texas Friday, September 12, 2014.

I won't say Oscar was a close friend, but he was a Good Friend.. I was only around Oscar at the Arkansas Good Sams Samborees.. He was an Awesome guy and a real 'Cut-up' that everyone loved. He will be missed by All Good Sams. Our Prayers are with You, Dorothy, and Family..

Our condolences, we were so sorry to hear of Oscar's death, he will truly be missed. Willie so enjoyed the "Honor Flight" trip to Washington D C with the two of you, Dorothy! And I enjoyed going along to be with you when you got back. We enjoyed our dinner with you at the Golden Corral
