Billie Gist, 84, of Batesville died Saturday, August 30, 2014, at a local nursing home.

Born September 18, 1929, in Independence County, she was the daughter of Claude Carnett and Ruby Kackley Carnett.

She was a local restaurateur in the Batesville area, owning three restaurants. She operated the Westside Steak House, the Hickory House, and Jerry's Café on Main Street in Batesville. After selling her restaurants, she worked at White-Rodgers for ten years until her retirement. She enjoyed all sorts of outdoor activities including camping and fishing. She also enjoyed dancing, was an avid reader and of the Christian faith.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Gist of Batesville; two daughters, Beverly Verser of Ida, Arkansas and Wanda Petree of Batesville; a brother, Donald Carnett of Batesville; five grandchildren, Jason Gist of Denver, Colorado, Adam Gist of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Johnny Gilpatrick of Batesville, Chad Petree of Clinton, Arkansas and Kari Jones of Batesville; seven great-grandchildren, Caeley Gist of Cord, Arkansas, Shelby Vanhorn of Locust Grove, Arkansas, Jodi Gilpatrick of Desha, Arkansas, Garrett Ballard-Jones of Batesville, and Ransom, Tanner, and Emma Jones, all of Batesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jody Gilpatrick; three sisters, Edna Bramblett, Faye Russell and Shirley Winkle; and two brothers, Hershel Carnett and Bobby Carnett.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Don Bales officiating. Arrangements are by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers will be David Jones, Garrett Ballard-Jones, Adam Gist, Terry Jarrett, Johnny Gilpatrick, Ryan Vanhorn and Jason Gist.

An honorary pallbearer is Dr. Homer Brooks.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the funeral home.

So sorry to hear about Miss B; she was always a beautiful lady and her picture shows that she was to the end. We had some wonderful times together and I see she still had that big smile.

To All the family of Billie's . including Barbara Ward, I was sorry to hear about Billie's passing from this earth, but we know she is able to breath good now. I haven't seen you in a long time Jerry but remember you very well. Barb, has kept me posted about Billie, I had know her sense in the 70's we used to have lots of fun .
