Gene was a great and caring man who we will dearly miss. I'm glad my kids was able to spend some time with him and i'm honored to say i was able to be around him and have the conversations we did. My heart and prayers go out to the family. I know him and Pat are in a much better place now and looking down on everybody in this hard time. As i have told my kids yes it is very hard to cope with the loss of a loved one and the only way i could get them to be somewhat at ease is to explain they have lost them here on this earth but they have gain to great guardian angels who will watch over them from above.

I met Papaw Gene 14yrs ago when I married into the family. I've heard many stories about his time in the service and his kindness and generosity. He was always one to appreciate hearing the family talk and the kids playing at get togethers, you could tell this by his frequent smile and low chuckles. In recent years he would sit back and just enjoy the moments we were all together. His smile and laugh will be missed.

Eugene or Gene as we called him has been a part of my family for the last twenty years. Although he was my father-in-law he was also my surrogate father. My father had passed away some years ago and Gene filled that void for me. He was a kind man who I never heard say a bad word about anyone. He was a very giving man who most times gave more than he received and he made great sacrifices for those he loved. Jeff, our children, grandchildren and I have many happy memories of the time we have spent with Gene. From our travels, camping, boating, holidays, barbeques, family get-togethers, accompanying him to his Naval reunions and just an occasional steak dinner. We enjoyed his company, his stories, his laughter, and at times his guidance. It never ceases to amaze me the abundance of his knowledge. I will dearly miss my confidant and my surrogate Dad. It brings my family and I comfort that he will no longer suffer in his aging body and that he will be reunited with his wife and our beloved mother, grandmother and mother-in-law Patricia. Love you and miss you Dad.
