Doris Marie Maness

of Conway, AR

February 19, 1927 - April 16, 2014

Doris Marie (Brantner) Maness, 87, of Conway, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. She was born on Saturday, February 19, 1927 in Red Mud, Texas, to the late Kay Parrack and Pearl Marie (Hoover) Brantner.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Camille Maness; two sisters, Irene Lemley and Joyce Wooten and her brother, Ralph Brantner.

Doris was a founding member of Fellowship Bible Church of Conway. Affectionately known as Miss Doris, she was a faithful member of Women at the Well, a great Bible teacher, prayer warrior, and loved by all who knew her.

There was not much Doris wouldn't try. As a young military wife she traveled alone with three small children across the ocean to live in London, England. While living there, she learned to knit. She loved to make things with her hands. She could cross stitch, quilt and made beautiful pieces with hardanger embroidery. All her grandchildren have quilts made by their granny. She often lamented that her two daughters did not share her love of a needle and thread.

She really loved her family and there are so many great memories of the times spent together cooking and sharing meals, and laughing. If she ever got tickled, she would laugh so hard she couldn't catch her breath, a trait her daughter shares. Doris faced many challenges in life, but she never complained. Her faith in God sustained her and she was in inspiration to all that knew her.

Those left to mourn her passing are her children, Charles Clay Maness of North Little Rock; her daughter, Melissa (Maness) Dean of Conway; four grandchildren, Sara Vint (Mark), Christy Dean, Tyler and Britton Maness; three great-grandchildren, Carly and Caroline Vint and Keaton Maness; brother Ron Brantner of Allen, Texas; numerous other nieces and nephews, and special friends. She loved them all dearly.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Fellowship Bible Church, 1051 Hogan Lane, Conway with Pastor Ken Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Hills Cemetery in Sherwood. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2014 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Operation Christmas Child Fund at Fellowship Bible Church, 1051 Hogan Lane, Conway, AR 72034.

We loved our visits with Miss Doris. It was like opening a present to visit and be surprised and delighted by her conversation. She might have few words but they were choice ones and always blessed us with a laugh and smile. Through all her pain and discomfort you knew she cared about you. She never complained! How unselfish! We miss her so much already. How blessed we are to have known her!

Miss Doris was a precious woman of God. When I worked as the church secretary, she was my faithful helper, coming every week to fold bulletins, stuff envelopes, pray with me and encourage me. I loved her dearly, as did so many others. She will be missed, but I know she is celebrating with her Savior!

When we started attending Fellowship, Doris was the first person that welcomed us and we looked forward each Sunday to seeing her smiling face. She never failed to stop by our seat and talk to us and we felt something was missing these past months that she was not able to attend. We will continue to miss her but will find peace in knowing that she is in a better place now. She was a very special lady.

Out thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family members. Don and I both have lost our parents and it is not easy as you never forget them. God Bless you.

Melissa, you and your family are in my prayers. For I always search the scripture for strength and this is what comes to mind.

Deuteronomy 31:8 says, it is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you.

Be Blessed

Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.. For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. Be Encouraged and know that your family is in our prayers.

Melissa and Clay,
I am so sorry to read about Doris. Over the years I have thought of her often. I will never forget her living across the street from mawmaw and papa, she was like a 2nd granny to Kim and I!!! Also, the trip she took with us in the winnebago. That was a special time for us. Doris was a very special part of our family and lives in so many ways!! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. We must be prepared and from what I have read in the guestbook I would say your mom has served the Lord diligently. May God keep you and your family close during this time of bereavement.

The severeign Most High god is ruler over our lives., So it's obvious that ifwe ever have the feeling of comfort, God has given it to us. He's the author of comfort. He's the one who grants us the peace, the satisfaction, the ease. "Bless the Lord, O my soul,...Who crowns you with loveing-kindness and compassion." Psalm 103:1,4 Melissa, may the Lord Bless you and the Family at this time in your lives. God Bless !!
