Thelma Faye Batson

of Malvern, AR

January 17, 1931 - March 9, 2014

Thelma Faye Batson, 83, of Little Rock, recently of Malvern, Arkansas went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 9, 2014. Thelma was born January 17, 1931 to E.V. and Birdie Graham Clark in Dalton, Texas near Ennis, Texas.

First and foremost, Thelma was a devout believer in her Lord Jesus Christ. In her years of high school she was captain of the cheerleaders in Ennis and enjoyed many friends while growing up there. After graduation from Ennis High School, she attended Jacksonville Baptist College where she met and married Bob Batson from Little Rock, Arkansas. From that union, two children were born, a daughter, Ginny and a son, Clark. Thelma's husband, Dr. Bob Batson pastored Park Place Baptist Church for many years in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Thelma retired from the Education Department of Pulaski Technical College. When it became evident she could no longer live independently, she chose The Crossing, an assisted living community in Malvern, Arkansas which she enjoyed to the fullest. Everyone there shortly put her on a first name basis.

She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Clark Batson; daughter, Ginny Oliver and granddaughter, Hayley Oliver.

She is survived by a twin sister, Velma Hyde (Bill) of Frankston, Texas; sister, Ardeena Wood of Bardwell, Texas and a half brother, Richard Clark of Ennis, Texas; grandchildren, Christy Jones; Angila Gifford; Kelli Mitchell; nine great grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209 (501) 455-5800. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Morrilton, Arkansas.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care of Hot Springs, 3955 Central Avenue, Suite 6, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71913.

Dear Mrs. Thelma's loved ones,
You don't know me, but I grew up loving Mrs. Thelma and Bro. Bob. They were very dear friends to my mom and dad, Wassell and Jean Burgess. I loved their kids, Ginny and Clark, as well. We went on vacations together growing up, and would often eat together as close families. In fact, Bro. Bob drove the hearse that carried my Dad to his final resting place. We'll never forget them all. Please know that my mom sends her love as well. We will be reunited some day.... Love and Prayers.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Mrs. Batson. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. I have known the Batson's for many many years. Brother Batson was my pastor at Park Place Baptist Church. And Mrs. Batson was my G.M.A. Counselor. They will always have a special place in my heart.

Thoughts and prayers to the family.

I have such good memories of both Thelma and Bro.Batson.
I have known them since I was 9 years old. I learned
so much all those years under Bro. Batson's preaching and teaching. Thelma was our G.M.A. teacher . She was always so pretty ... My mom used to call her "Beautiful." I remember Thelma always had a smile. I loved them both. Thankful my Heavenly Father put them in my life. I'm still sharing what I learned from Bro. Batson not only with my children but the children I teach in Sunday School. Praying that God will give you peace and comfort.
