February 15, 1931 - January 20, 2014

Thelma "Liz" Duff, age 82, of Harrison, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014, at her home. She was born February 15, 1931, in Long Island, New York. She left New York after World War II and moved to New Jersey.

While growing up Liz's seven brothers all rode motorcycles so Liz decided she needed one as well and rode a motorcycle to high school. She loved playing the piano and could have had a bright career in music but she chose to finish her education at Northern Arizona College, now the University of Arizona, with a BA
and a Masters. She taught for many years.

Liz was an adventurous women having hiked the Grand Canyon each way and floated the river through the Canyon. She competed in Triathlons and won the over 50 group three times. She loved skiing and enjoyed the opportunity to do that while living in Leadville, Colorado before moving to Harrison. Liz will be remembered as "full of life and never a dull moment."

Liz is survived by her husband, Ken Duff, of the home; her sons, Berry Sandlin of Tacoma, Washington, Jerry Sandlin of Kalispell, Montana, and Michael Duff of Bryan, Texas; her daughters, Denise Jolly of Springerville, Arizona and Kim Holcomb of Somerset, Kentucky; several brothers and sisters; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of dear friends.

Funeral service was Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Bro. Michael Berkley officiating.

Aunt Liz was an inspiration to me and a wonderful role mode. I am glad her suffering is finally over. Thank you Ken for caring for her through these difficult years. I cherish the memory of those visits to you and Aunt Liz in Arkansas and I can still picture the two of you getting on that motorcycle together. Denise, Jerry and Barry and your families - please accept my heartfelt sympathy for your loss.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Praise our Savior. Mommy you are free and yourself again and forever, I am so happy we will see each other in heaven. Thank you for the faith you lived for us to see and be encouraged by. You have been a true Christian witness and continual strength to me my whole life. Thank You Jesus for such a wonderful mother.

She was Liz to me and my family and she was my beloved sister-in-law while my brother was alive and became my "sister" upon his death. She was very athletic and energetic and always full of so much joy and laughter. Ken became the "brother-in-law to our family when they married and we loved him because she did! They attended our reunions and gatherings until she became physically unable to. Ken took good care of her in her declining years and we are all very grateful for his dedication to giving her the best care available. We are grateful that her suffering is over I look forward to being with her again in Heaven. I am so thankful that I had her in my life for so many years and will keep her in my memories for the rest of mine. Thank you Liz for the many many times I spent with you. I cherish all the lessons and wisdom you shared. You were always a class act! Love you!

Mommy was the best mother I could have asked for. We had so much fun while I was growing up and did so many things together. We stayed close after I was grown and had some fun times and lots of phone time since we lived hours or days from each other. I have missed our phone conversations for the past few years as she was no longer able to talk. I am so thankful she is finally at rest where there is no more sorrow and no more pain. She was a most amazing person who was one of my heros and I admire so much. I love sharing memories of adventures. There must have been quite a reunion in heaven upon her arrival and her voice is no longer silenced by her illness. I know she will be part of my welcoming committee when it is my turn to go to heaven. You are the best Mommy!!

A Grandmother is the person that a little girl looks up to and wants to be just like. You were my first mentor and one of my all time favorite people. I love you so much and I can't wait to see you again. You are always with me in my heart.
