April 26, 1929 - January 2, 2014

Civil Catherine Gray, age 84, of Eudora, Kansas, formerly of Harrison, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Center Point Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. She was born April 26, 1929, in Rock Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of David Martin and Florence K. (Dunn) Ritter. Along with her parents, Civil was preceded in death by her husband, William Elmer Gray; two sisters; and two brothers.

Civil attended Eudora Baptist Church. She married William Elmer Gray December 25, 1947, in Onia, Arkansas. She was an LPN having worked as an assistant nursing home administrator in Lawrence, Kansas, and was the first nursing home administrator at the Eudora Nursing Center in Eudora, having retired from there. She moved to Harrison in 1994 and spent the last few years in Eudora with her daughter. In her free time when she wasn't caring for others, Civil enjoyed quilting, reading, and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

Civil is survived by her son, Larry Gray , of McLouth, Kansas; Larry's children and grandchildren, Terra Gray, Adam Gray and his fiancé Katrina and Nathan Gray and great-grandchild, Marcelene Gray, all of McLouth, Kansas; Civil's daughter, Violet Huseby, of Eudora, Kansas; Violet's children and grandchildren, Dana and Denny Schanuth and grandchildren, Aaron Schanuth and Jessica Schanuth, child Christina and Paul Sinclair and grandchildren, Vanesa Sinclair, Manu Sinclair, and Abigail Sinclair; child Jared and Rachel Huseby and grandchild Abigail Huseby, all of Independence, Missouri; and many dear friends.


Visitation was open.

Funeral service was Monday, January 6, 2014, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with James Huseby speaking.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Interment was in East Lawn Cemetery, Marshall, Arkansas.

Violet, I was so sorry to hear of Civil's passing. We were pew buddies in church and I miss her still. Lucille Lawson and I were planning to be at her service this afternoon, but the road here is icy and I am afraid to drive today.
