of Harrison, AR

March 2, 1958 - July 11, 2013

On Thursday, July 11, 2013, Tim Somers, age 55, was received by his Heavenly Father. Tim was a caring son, a mischievous and devoted brother, but the role he cherished the most was being a father to his three sons. Tim was born in Martinsville, Indiana on March 2, 1958. He moved to Arkansas when he was 5 years old and called Harrison home.

Tim was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the daycare board. He enjoyed football and was an active armchair quarterback. He loved to take his sons fishing and believed that if you give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Tim was a master craftsman and woodworker. He was a star football player for the Harrison Goblins. He earned his Eagle Scout at the youngest age ever in Arkansas at the time and was recognized by the lieutenant governor at the ceremony.

Tim was a true Arkansas Renaissance man. He enjoyed lively debates about religion, politics, and sports. He was a devout Christian and was at peace in any situation of his life because he knew that God was there by his side. Tim was a humble man and put people first and worldly possessions last. He was giving, kind, and the first to offer a hand to those in need. Tim never expected anything in return and was always grateful for what he received.

Tim will be missed by his sons, John Somers and wife Kim, Ty Somers, and Matt Somers; his parents, Caroline and Claude Somers; his sisters, Nancy Kuhlmann, Melinda Bagley and husband Barry, and Rebecca Martin and husband Sam; and his brother, Bryan Somers. Tim was blessed with one grandson, Noah Somers. Tim also was a fun loving uncle and great-uncle to a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Tim's life was held Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Doug and his skilled, dedicated, tireless, and grace-filled team of nurses and other team members at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK.

In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up at Community First Bank, c/o Tim Somers Family Benefit Fund. All funds will benefit Matt Somers, age 9.

Dear family of Tim Somers, you are in our thoughts and prayers with his passing. I have fond memories of Tim when he was a little boy visiting us in Jennings County and attending Willow Grove church together. One memorable Easter pic with all of us lined up in a row in our Easter finery. He is gone from this world to a place of no sickness and pain where he will be forever with God. Love and Blessings to you all, Linda and Patrick

My deepest condolences to the family of Tim Somers for a life that ended too soon, may your hearts find peace and comfort in this promise "And He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". - Revelation 21:3, 4.
