James Arthur Rose

of Omaha, AR

March 23, 1919 - April 13, 2013

James "Arthur" Rose, age 94, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, in Harrison. Mr. Rose was born March 23, 1919, at Burlington, the son of Jack and Polly (Warren) Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and a grandson, Wesley Edwards.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hazel Rose, of the home; two sons, Donald Rose of Russellville and Gene Rose of Lamar; one daughter, Rita Rose, of Omaha; his grandchildren, Melanie of Florida, Matthew, Wendall and Wade of Omaha, Kristy of Conway, April of Jasper, Timothy and Johnathan of Russellville and Alexandria of Dover; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Jarrett, of Hill City, Kansas; and a host of extended family.

He is best known for owning and operating Rose's DX/H&R Service in Omaha since 1963, where he was happy to tell you stories with a laugh and a smile. He especially loved telling about the 10 point buck he killed at age 85 that scored 160 3/8 on the Boone and Crockett scale and placed 5th at the Big Buck Expo in Little Rock that year. There were always stories of fishing on Long Creek, Bear Creek and Cricket Creek. He served from 1941 to 1947 during World War II as a Master Sgt in the US Air Force, including 1 year in the Philippine Islands.

Services were Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Burlington Baptist Church with Dr. James Bryant speaking.

Burial was in Burlington Cemetery following the services.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home in Harrison.

I have known Arthur and Hazel my entire life and thought of both of them as like an extra set of Grandparents. As kids when we got a little extra change we wanted to go to the DX station to spend it. It never failed as soon as you hit the front door Arthur was there to greet you with one of his " stories " about hunting for the big buck or catching some enormous fish. I don't think the man ever meet anyone that didn't fall for his charm after talking with him for a few minutes. Omaha will not be the same without seeing Arthur either at the store or meeting him on the road in his old beat up truck. To Hazel and the family , know that Arthur was a very special friend to many generations and he will be missed.
Rest in peace my friend , Heaven gained a special Angel when you went home. God bless the family in this difficult time.Sending love and prayers , Diane
