John Jerome Layes, 71 of Subiaco, Arkansas passed away on April 5, 2013 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on March 17, 1942 in Scranton, Arkansas to his parents John B. and Estelle (Beshoner) Layes. He was a retired Catalog Manager for Cloyes Gear Company in Paris and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco and the Knights of Columbus Council 2387. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and traveling.
John is preceded in death by his parents John and Estelle Layes and one sister-in-law Jeanie Layes.
John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Roselyn (Eckart) Layes of Subiaco, Arkansas; two sons, John J. Layes Jr. ''Jay'' of Farmington, Arkansas and Clint Alan Layes and wife Rebecca of Little Rock, Arkansas; two sisters, Teresa Roos and husband Bill of Caldwell, Idaho and Clarine Terwey and husband Jack of Prairie View, Arkansas; two brothers, Ronald L. Layes of Scranton, Arkansas and Charles Layes of Scranton, Arkansas and one grandson, Owen John Layes of Little Rock.
Rosary serivce will be held at 7:45 p.m., on Monday, April 8, 2013 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco officiated by Abbot Jerome Kodell O.S.B.. Burial will follow in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Paris. Online guestbook at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com
Pallbearers will be Steve Layes, Darian Layes, Craig Layes, Gary Kaelin, Jamie Ward and Jarrad Ward.
Honorary pallbearers will be PeeWee Schluterman, Pat Ward, Leonard Lensing, James Sprick, Jimmy Kremers, Charlie Lux and Frank Klein.

John, just a note to say we truly didn't know your dad, but he seems to be a great man as manifested in the many graces we see you displaying in your life. He seemed to enjoy nature and life and his family. May you draw comfort from having had such a loving father in your life. Take comfort in the legacy that he left for you.

John, I'm so sorry for your loss. It is always hard to lose a parent, it doesn't matter what the circumstances are. Your dad knew you loved him, and he died surrounded by love. I just got word of John's passing and I'd like to extend my deepest condolences to his Family. I worked with John for almost 20 years at Cloyes Gear and developed a great relationship with him.

He was a friend and a fishing and hunting companion to three generations of our family. We will all miss him greatly.

John came into our family when I (Eddie) was four years old.....I don't remember Roselyn without him. We will miss him!
