My wife and I have been vacationing and visiting mountain home for many years. A couple of years ago we visited Eastside Baptist Church on one of our weekend trips and found Brother Mike and the church really on fire for the Lord Jesus Christ. We found Brother Mike's preaching and teaching abilities exceptional and loved to hear his messages. On every trip we would be excited about attending Sunday morning and hearing brother Mike preach. We arrived in Mountain Home on september the 8th and got up to attend the 10:30 service that Sunday and was shocked to hear of brother Mike's passing. Carla and I are still mourning the loss of brother Mike and will miss him greatly. We have been and will continue to pray for the Shy family.

Mike and I go way back to high school and Overland Baptist. Mike was a wonderful young man back then and I know that he continued to serve his Christ as a proclaimer of His Word. I was so saddened to hear of his passing and entry into Heaven. Please know my prayers are with all of the family at this very difficult time. When it seems like all you want to do is cry, go ahead and do it. Those are words many friends have spoken to me since my husband passed away, and they have so much truth in them.

I didn't know Micael in person, but through the community and hearing about how amazing this man was. I know many young teens who were involved with the youth group at Eastside and the kids just loved Pastor Mike. Kathye, you and your family have been and will continue to be in my prayers. Embrace the sweet memories of this special man. God bless you and keep you wrapped tightly in His loving arms.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you Kathye and family. There are few people in a lifetime that reach out and take hold of our hearts like Brother Mike did. Ever a constant friend, counselor, pastor, and mentor to whom ever his path crossed. There are some very difficult moments in my life that he stood by me and I am eternally grateful for that. I honestly believe that he was one of the greatest men I have ever known. Though my girls and I are deeply saddened for the loss of such a wonderful man we take comfort in knowing that we will all meet again. May God hold you close in these dark hours and comfort you as he has always done. We love you - Leah, Natalie, and Kimberly Bruce.

Our Heavenly Father blessed our church family and this communtiy when He brought Mike and his family here. Mike was a man after God's heart and God gave Mike a spiritual gift to enter into an individual's world and become part of it. Although Mike was a long way from perfect in the form of man, I believe that he was greeted by his Saviour, Jesus Christ, who shared . . . "Well done my faithful servent."

Kathye and family, we were so sad when we heard of Brother Mike's passing. I know it is a shock to all of you. I just want you to know, how much he has touched my life and my husband's life. He never judged anyone, and went out of his way to help us through our sorrow. He was also inspirational in our marriage, and we still talk about his talks with us prior to our marriage. I believe he made us stronger and brought us back to the Lord. I will be praying for your peace and that God will help you and your family through this time.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Shy family. Brother Mike was an inspiration to us, and we loved his passion for the Lord. When we first moved to Mountain Home in 2006, we only had to attend one service and hear one of his sermons to know that East Side was where we needed to be. Despite attending a much larger church than we ever had before, Brother Mike always took the time to say hello, and found ways to make you feel at home. We are deeply saddened at his passing and will miss him dearly, but we look forward to seeing him again on the streets of Glory.

Lifting...

There are few words, and fewer people that have the ability to lift others spirits.

Brother Shy was touched by God, and he shared that most amazing joy with anyone he knew.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bro Shy as a young teen in Texarkana. I listened to him share God's Word with excitement and passion.

He planted a seed in my heart. Thirty-some years later, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I could still hear his words as we sat on the steps of our small church.

Lifting... Bro Shy lifted my heart so that some day I might know God.

Thank you Brother Mike...

Our prayers to your family, your church, and those many friends who's hearts have been touched.

Mike was in his senior year of high school when I followed the footsteps of Dave Bennett as youth minister at OBC. Mike was a leader of the youth who all welcomed us with open arms. There were many evenings that Mike had dinner at our house, stayed and talked for hours, and then fell asleep on our sofa.

Yes, Mike will be missed, but we know that we will one day see him again in Heaven. It was so encouraging to know that Mike stayed TRUE
to the WORD all these years. "Welcome home thou good and faithful servant".

We both enjoyed old cars and when we would see each other, even years later, we would take up where we left off in our last car discussion. I will sorely miss Mike but look forward to when I see him in heaven and he can tell me that it is better than he ever imagined it would be. David and I knew and loved Mike when he was a youth at Overland Baptist Church. I'm so sorry for your loss and will be praying for God's peace and grace to be lavished in abundance upon you. David will probably be joining Mike soon and they'll have delightful times catching up on what's gone on during the last 40 some years. That should take at least the first thousand years.

Taking solice in the knowledge that Mike is in a position to be a guarfdian angel over his familly, but those that loved him as he loved us. God needs an army of angels to get us through these times and he will be one of them. We go through sadness so that we may be compassionate and empathetic when others are faced with tragedies or sorrow. Asking God to help us accept his departure and to wrap his arms around us. Mike will be greatly missed by so many. Our hearts go out to Kathye and their lovely family..

Bro. Mike baptized me almost 11 years ago. Even though I have lived in Little Rock for the past 8 years, East Side has always felt like my church home every time I have been back for a visit. Bro. Mike was an amazing pastor and teacher. I am grateful for the influence he had on my walk with Jesus Christ. I pray that God provides his family with the comfort that only He can during this difficult time.

I am deeply saddened by this news. I knew only of Brother Mike through close friends Juanita and Jack Coy and Emily (Strawbridge) Sanders and her Parents Norman and Patty. I was right along the same age as all of his children. He is just too young. Praise God for His plan, whatever it may be. My prayers and my heart go out to all his family and friends. May God give you all comfort.

Mike's loving kind spirit will be irreplaceable. His love for the Lord and passion for people was so obvious. I thank the Lord for his legacy. Our friendship goes back to High School in St. Louis. We have always been united in faith and in seeking to work for the reign of God on earth as in heaven.

This separation is premature and shocking, and all of Mike's friends are grieving especially for his loved ones who are left to mourn his absence. Yet we know that while God does not desire the suffering of any of us, God is working through everything to bring about healing and wholeness and good. And surely God has not abandoned Mike, though we cannot see him now.

We are all gathered in one embrace and are all held in the infinite compassion from which we were called into this life, and to which we shall return, through the mercy of Christ.

Kathye, my heart breaks for you and your kids. You are an amazing woman. I consider myself honored to have called Bro. Mike our pastor, mentor, teacher, and a friend. Michael and I would not be who we are today without his guidance. He took us under his wing- counseled us, married us, and eventually helped us dedicate our own children to the Lord. He was nothing short of being one of the most godly men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. His heart was beyond welcoming, his passion for Christ was infectious, his love and desire to see little children know God was inspiring, and his devotion to God’s people was contagious. May God grant you all peace in this time of suffering. We love you!
