Floyd Winford McClure Jr.

of Paris, AR

January 14, 1959 - August 20, 2012

Floyd Winford McClure Jr., 53 of Paris, Arkansas passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012 in Fort Smith. He was born on January 14, 1959 in Paris to his parents Floyd and Carol Ann (Trusty) McClure. He was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Paris and a lifelong Paris Eagle Fan.

Winford was a U.S. Postman and local roofer but come Friday night each fall for the past 20 years he was known as the ''Voice of the Eagles''. Winford had first started doing the radio play by play before settling in as the Public Address announcer. He was loved by all Eagle fans for his infectious phrases such as ''Touchdown Eagles and See Yaaaaaa'' but more important he was loved for the multiple decades he spent mentoring young athletes throughout the area.

Because of his love for all high School Sports the family request that all of those attending his services dress in your favorite team's attire. No doubt most people will be dressed in Royal Blue and White but those from Subiaco are encouraged to wear Orange and Blue, Scranton purple and gold, Charleston black and gold etc.. The family would love to see all communities come together to celebrate his wonderful life.

Winford is preceded in death by his mother Carol Ann (Trusty) McClure.

Winford is survived by his wife of 19 years Teresa (Conkin) McClure of Paris; one daughter Nikki Rogers and husband Daniel of Paris; two sons Coby Henley and Payton McClure both of Paris; his father and step-mother Floyd McClure Sr. and Lola McClure of Paris; two sisters Diane McClure of Paris and Janet McClure of Branch; two brothers Mike McClure and wife Sherri of Greenwood and Tim McClure of Fort Smith; his mother in law Neoma Conkin of Paris; his brother in laws Tommy and Kevin Conkin both of Paris and the most spoiled grandson in all of Logan County, Lucas Daniel Rogers as well as a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at 701 N. 5th Street in Paris.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church at 311 E. Main Street in Paris officiated by Bro. J.H. Carter and Bro. David Johnson. Burial will follow in McKendree Cemetery near Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Paris.

Senior pallbearer will be Bentley Allen and active pallbearers will be Ron Trusty, Rick Trusty, T.J. Cauthron, Billy Featherston, Clint Mainer, Leroy Ramsey, Ricky Hixson, Greg Harrison and Kenny Vines.

Honorary pallbearers are the Paris Coaching Staff and the 2012 Senior High Eagle Football Team.

In lieu of flowers the family has set up the McClure Family Memorial Fund at 1st National Bank in Paris.

McClure family and friends. I`m so sorry for your loss. Its not easy to say goodbye to the ones you love. The bible talks about how soon death will be no more. (Revelation 21:4) It also talks about how there will be a time when we will see our dead loved ones again, which is brought out at John 5:28, 29. I hope this brings you both hope and encouragement.

I met Payton earlier this summer with his Dad at the Paris Boys Club Reunion, and was so proud to see that Winford had created a spitting image of himself in his son :) I will miss your Million Dollar Smile and your kind & loving spirit like we all will.. but you've left a part of yourself with us and he is what we most needed in order to let you go. I have had so many fun times with you thru the years. What great times we had in school, forever locked in my heart:) Pappy my prayers are with your loving Wife and your wonderful children.

Our prayers are with your family dear friend. May our Lord God provide rich consolation to all who mourn your passing. Winford was forever young, and always had a wonderfully infectious smile to share. Although our paths crossed infrequently in later years, Winford made us feel as close as those wonderful high school years with his easy spirit.

God bless you Windord and your sweet family!

I will nof attend a Paris Eagle football game without thinking to myself "And thats another Paris Eagle...." everytime there is a first down. :) this man will be missed my mamy. But the impact he has made in our lives will live on forever.

So glad that we to can also say we were aware of the kind man that Winford was. He was always whereever something was going on, and Paris will miss that.. Some people get awarded the Harvest Award for all their good deeds they do in this town, and he should have won that even being a young man. But he got the biggest award ever when he entered into Heaven. Thanks Winford for all you have done. His son Payton, will make him proud. God Bless all of you, and I will be praying for you during this difficult times and the days ahead.

Been reading all of the testimonials that peolpe are writing, i wonder if winford had even a clue how much people loved him, and miss him, and how they care for his family. One thing i seem to understand is that he had the ability to make everyone feel special and like you were his best friend. i can still hear his voice in my head, he always called me mar, he was my friend and i miss him, like alot of people last night had a hard time sleeping. My husband told me the other day a little story, short but i think it fits, he said he had a cousin that was aged and he was dying and his lil wife was having a hard time coming to terms with his soon departure, he looked at her and said dont fret, ill be just around the corner... somehow that little story has helped me, we cant see around the corner but their there, waiting, and we will see you again, thanks winford for always making me feel like i was your best friend. see you soon!

There are no words that can ease the pain the family is going thru other than knowing Winford is with Jesus now. He was an outstanding person, family man, friend and the all time Eagle Football announcer. My son told me that in Boys Club, when he didn't believe in himself, Winford did. He encouraged him and would pay him on the back and say Good Job. He influenced my son as well as so many more youth in our town.
Praying God gives the family strength and comforts you in this time
