Jesse C Lipscomb

of England, AR

January 6, 1927 - June 17, 2012

Jesse Claar Lipscomb, 85, of England went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, June 17, 2012. He was born January 6, 1927 to James Wood and June Schooley Lipscomb. He is survived by a son, Dr John Lipscomb (Sherri) of Cincinnati, Ohio and a daughter Margaret Lipscomb Page of Rowlett, Texas; by sisters Ditty Mitts of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Betty Dodds of Burlington, Iowa; by grandchildren Logan (Aubrey), Emma, Katie and Cora; great grandson, Lane and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers JW ''Pete'' Lipscomb, Jr and Glenn S. Lipscomb, and a sister, Sue Lipscomb Cash. He was a retired pharmacist and owner of Lipscomb Drug Store in England. He was a Methodist, a Past President of the England Lions Club, a Gideon, a Life Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He served in the U.S. Navy 1946-1948 aboard the battleship USS Mississippi and the destroyer USS Ernest G. Small. He enjoyed Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Tennyson, Browning and Kipling. His favorite Bible passage was Psalms 67. He was overly generous, grateful for every act of kindness that he received and he loved life, making new friends and baseball. His cheerful demeanor and persevering attitude were infectious. The quickest route to his heart was by extending the kind offer of a cheeseburger or a kosher dill pickle. He spoke often and highly of the classmates he had at the St Louis College of Pharmacy (Ron, Charlie, Emmitt and Bill), the boarding houses and entertainment establishments of St Louis, and of the evening breezes of Norfolk, Virginia. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Monday, June 18, at Roller England Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 19, 2012 at 2 pm at Roller England Funeral Home and burial will be in Mulberry Cemetery. Local arrangements are by Roller England Funeral Home 501 842 3939. The family requests that memorials be made to the William F. Foster Library, 100 East Taylor, England, Arkansas 72046.

Hi John: Hanan and I are very sorry for your loss, but your father obviously led a full and remarkable life. From the description of your father, the apple obviously did not fall far from the tree - you are so much like the description of your dad. We hope you are doing well - you are in our thoughts and prayers - Ken and Hanan

To the Lipscomb Family,

John, Sherry, Emma and Cora,

Jesse was a special man, based on how fondly and often John spoke of him . We are very sorry to learn of your family's loss. While heaven may be a better place for such a magnanimous soul, we hope that the sadness associated with his passing will be replaced soon with a sense of pride and thankfulness for all he accomplished during this life. We will keep your family and your father and grandfather in our prayers.
Sincerely,
Glenn and Nancy Rice

John and Margaret, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your dad was a wonderful man who quietly helped a lot of people (including me and the many other teenagers he employed in the drug store) and served his hometown. He was always an interesting fellow and fun to be around, the type of person who'll be fondly remembered.

To this wonderful family: I am so sorry to learn of your loss today. One of my best memories of Mr. Lips comb was when he would sell me a bus ticket at his drug store that would take me to Scott for 75 cents. John, it was good to see you yesterday. John
