Mr. Thomas "Tommy" Preston Meridith
November 12, 1939 - June 12, 2012

Thomas “Tommy” Preston Meridith, age 72, of Jonesboro passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born November 12, 1939 to Gene and Rachel Meridith near Jonesboro. Tommy owned and operated Meridith TV Sales and Service for many years in Jonesboro. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church. His favorite saying was “Ain’t God Good?” He was a member of the 1958 class of Bono High School, served in the Arkansas National Guard and was an active Mason. Tommy was an avid amateur radio operator since age 15 (when he built his first rig), enjoyed photography and feeding the birds. He held a private pilot’s license in earlier years. He also enjoyed and played banjo in the bluegrass band, Shady Hill.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alba Jean Born; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Born and Henry Sherman.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Norma Summers Meridith; a son, Steve Meridith and wife Toni; a granddaughter, Secret Rackley; a grandson, Cody Phillips and fiancée
Kaitlin Glaub; a sister, Frances Sherman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.


Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 West Washington Avenue in Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Friday at the funeral home with Paul White and Mike Book officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will include Troy Snell, Steve Lamb, Bill Summers, Scott Sherman, Mitch Swindle and Chris Treadway. Honorary pallbearers will include Ralph Browning, Ernest Hallmark, Rick Lane, Dennis Smith, Eugene Sherman, ham radio operators of Northeast Arkansas and the Northeast Arkansas Bluegrass Association.

Lasting memorials can be made to either the Prospect Baptist Church, 4200 East Johnson, Jonesboro AR 72401 or to the Union Grove Methodist Cemetery Fund, 1961 CR 304, Jonesboro AR 72401.
