Sue Sherrill Shoemaker, 87, of Fort Smith, and formerly of Springfield, MO, passed away Friday evening April 13 at Methodist Health and Rehab, Fort Smith.
Born on December 24, 1930 in Salem, AR, she was the daughter of the late Ira C. Sherrill and Thelma (Woods) Sherrill. Sue's husband of 63 years, Jim G. Shoemaker, preceded her in death in September 2013. She is survived by a sister, Jane Johnson of Augusta, AR; children, James R. Shoemaker of Houston, TX and William M. Shoemaker of Springfield, MO; grandson, Derek A. Shoemaker of Philipsburg, PA; and two great-grandchildren. Her brother, Jim Sherrill; and a grandson, Trevor Shoemaker, preceded her in death.
A 1948 graduate of Batesville High School, Sue attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College) for a year before she married Jim on December 30, 1949. Supporting her husband throughout his career, Sue lived in Hartville, MO; Aurora, MO; Neosho, MO, and Springfield, MO, before moving to Fort Smith in 2015.
Sue was active in several volunteer activities, and she will be remembered for her love of Arkansas Razorback sports, and of all types of dogs.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home, Batesville. A graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery Friday April 20, at 2pm. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 12:30pm-1:30pm Friday.
