James P. ''Jim'' Cargill, 67, of Batesville died Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at White River Medical Center in Batesville after a short illness.
Born March 26, 1948, in Batesville, he was the son of Bernard and Buna Cargill.
Jim was a graduate of Batesville High School class of 1966 and received a business degree from Arkansas State University in 1971.
He was retired as manager of Riverside Graphics printing and office supply store, and was co-owner of Carlee's Hallmark.
He served as a member of Batesville City Council from 1976 through 2004.
Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps after college graduation and served in San Diego, CA, and Okinawa, Japan. He was a proud American and especially proud of his affiliation with the Marines. He had recently joined the Stone County Honor Guard which serves at veterans activities in the area, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He became an avid sailor after taking sailing lessons while stationed in San Diego. He sailed for years on Greers Ferry Lake and has sailed in the Bahamas, Virgin Islands and once sailed around Cape Horn.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jo, of the home; daughter Tricia Cargill and grandsons Corbyn, Cameron and Cayden Snell of Batesville; one sister, Judy Sturdivant (Butch) of Vilonia; and two nephews, Eric Sturdivant of Vilonia and Mark Sturdivant of Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Bernard Lee Cargill Jr.
Pallbearers will be Bo Boykin, Richard Painter, Mike Smith and Michael Eaton. Honorary pallbearers are R.L. Carpenter, Waylon Long, Tyler Long, Chris Zelasko and O.E. Jones.
Services will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Monday at 11 a.m. followed by interment in the Memorial Garden at the church. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.

I have such fond memories of Jim. I worked for him at Riverside Graphics. He took a chance with a single mom with 3 small children. I will always be thankful. Truly an amazing man. Jo you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I will always remember Jim interviewed me for my first real job out of college for the Batesville Guard and got hired and spent six great years with them and the Jones family. Afterwards being in the ad agency business we did a lot of business with Jim at Riverside Graphics for many years. Hated to hear about this sad time! He was always a great friend!

Tricia, no one understands the love between a dad and his little girl. He is glorious tonight, returning to his home. He is happy, healthy and he will be right next to you always. Brant and I send our deepest condolences to you and your mom. Heaven is having a party tonight.
