J. T. Godwin, 72, of Batesville, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at White River Medical Center.
He was born in Dowdy, Arkansas on November 24, 1942 and was the son of Jewell and Mirkley (Melton) Godwin.
A self-employed truck driver, he worked for Dowell Trucking, the Arkansas Highway Department, and Independence County Road Department. He also owned the Godwin Grocery in Batesville. He liked to go to auctions, hunt, fish, especially with his special fishing buddy, Marvin Coldwell. Besides fishing, he liked to cook fish, eat fish and cook fish for other people. J. T. looked for the best in everyone. He was a member of the North Heights Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Wadley) Godwin of Batesville; one daughter, Deborah Halcom of Batesville; two grandchildren, Beth Bruce-Creasey and Ty Bruce; and three great-grandchildren, Bradlee, Kayden, and Blake Creasey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bradley Thomas Ray Godwin; and one brother, Maurice Lance.
Pallbearers will be Freddie Avant, Gene Melton, Paul Cummings, Darrell Fulbright, Vernon Eagans, and Buford Eagans. Honorary pallbearers are Marvin Coldwell, Rob Cox, Drew Sandage, Jim Bruce, Mitchell Burcham, Ronnie Melton, Pat Melton, Delbert Ray Melton, Chris Gillihan, Robert Griffin, Billy Bob Burns, Ron Byars, Pat Mashburn, Roger Mashburn, Mike Mashburn, and the Independence County Road Department.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at North Heights Church of Christ with Chuck Hix, Jimmy Hubbard, and Benson Hardaway officiating. Bill Whittington will be the song leader. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

with loving memories to a very special person and cousin that I loved and was very close too him with all my heart he will be deeply missed I will miss talking to him on the phone. We have gotten close the past couple of years, he would call and talk and I will always remember his laugh and his old stories of our childhood together. I just can't believe he is gone, today is a bad day and we all love you J.T. and we express our love to his wife Sharon and all of his family!
