The world has lost a precious treasure. The first time I met Jackie was Thanksgiving 1996. John and his family invited me to Thanksgiving dinner. I walked into the house not knowing what to expect. Jackie greeted me with the warmest and prettiest smile. I immediately felt like I knew her all my life. Little did I know she had already made me her son weeks before she even met me. From that very day forward, she treated me like royalty, as if I was better than her somehow...as if it were ever possible for me to be better than her. I never heard her say one bad thing about anyone. She was just that pure of heart. She acknowledged me on all my birthdays, every holiday and many many times in between. My dearest memory will always be of each time she and her husband John Clayton Martin, visited us in Dallas, upon leaving, she would kiss me on my cheek and say, "I love you. You take care until I get back." By her unwavering graciousness, kindness, natural unconditional love, strength, laughter, happiness, selflessness...that beautiful heart...she made me a better person. It's just not possible for words to do her time here on earth justice. She was a wife, a mother of three great sons, a friend and an inspiration to everyone, an outstanding member of her community and church, my confidant, my ally, my living proof that people are capable of such wonderful things. Our lives will never be the same without her and believe me when I say, I'd give both my arms...I'd give everything just to have her back.
Rest in peace my beautiful friend. Your precious & impeccably-lived life...the love and lessons you gave us and YOU, Mrs. Jacklyn Martin, will never be forgotten. I love you and will miss you dearly for the rest of my life.
It's times like these that bring to reality how important our friends and family are and how lucky we are to still have them with us. Live life good and don't let a day go by without making someone else feel good about themselves and the world...just as Mrs. Jackie did.
