Walter E. Hanks, age 76, of Bergman, Arkansas, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at his residence. Walter was born August 30, 1940, in Coushatta, Louisiana, the son of Wallace and Hazel (English) Hanks . He was preceded in death by his step-father, Alfred Ebey; his mother, Hazel Hanks Ebey; and his father in law,
Walter Spillman.

Walter enjoyed hunting and fishing. He attended Ozark Baptist Church at Bergman, Arkansas. He was a Vietnam Army veteran. In 1990 Walter moved his family from Coushatta, Louisiana to Bergman Arkansas where he started a poultry farm for Tysons.

Walter is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ezelle (Spillman) Hanks, of Bergman; his son, Mike Hanks and his wife Liz of Bergman; his brother, Tommy Ebey and his wife Pam, of Coushatta, Louisiana; his sisters, Linda Layfield and husband Ray of Monroe, Louisiana, Nellie Lindsey of Coushatta, Louisiana, and Carolyn Sandefer and husband Albert of Castor, Louisiana; his grandchildren, Katie Hanks and Chris Hanks; his step-grandchildren, Jake Rand and Savannah Richardson; a special niece, Patricia (Brat) Bates; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral service was Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Ozark Baptist Church in Bergman. Visitation was Monday, June 19, 2017, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home. Burial was in Keesee Cemetery near Lead Hill, Arkansas.

Pallbearers were Tommy Ebey, Ray Layfield, Kenneth Spillman, Christopher Hanks, Keith Byrd and Vince Stewart.

Honorary Pallbearers were Bro. Jerry Bryant and Keith Stewart.
