Virginia Ruth (Sammons) Windle-Wineland, 93, of Jonesboro, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

Born in Jonesboro on May 3, 1921, she was the seventh of 14 children to the late Cyrus Corree and Ida Bell (Ketchum) Sammons.

She was voted Miss Oklahoma City of Irving School in 1935 and was a member of the Eastern Star #5050 of Van Dyke, MI, where she held the office of Ruth. She was instrumental in organizing the DAV Auxiliary Post #26 in Jonesboro in 1965 and served as Commander for six years. She was a member of Ridgecrest Missionary Baptist Church and was selected Senior Christian of the Year for 2001-02.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Paul E. Windle and Floyd O. Wineland; one daughter, Paulette Vowell; six brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by three sons, Robert Windle (Carol) of Jonesboro, Dan Windle (Jill) of Katy, TX, Jeffery Wineland (Chris) of Georgetown, TX; one daughter, Patti Bassett (Bob) of Jonesboro; one brother, Robert Sammons of Pocahontas; one sister, Rosella Fuller of Granite City, IL; 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2:00pm in Oaklawn Cemetery with Larry Alexander officiating and Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that consideration be given to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, c/o St. Bernards Development Foundation, 400 East Street, Jonesboro, AR 72401.
