Muriel Tutt

of Bruno, AR

June 13, 1926 - August 23, 2018

Muriel Gertrude Tutt, age 92, passed on to her heavenly home August 23, 2018. Born to George and Gertrude (Lloyd) Eklund on June 13, 1926 she grew up in the farm area of DeKalb County, Illinois.

At the age of 14, Muriel found her sweetheart, Merle. When he went into the Navy, she finished high school, graduating valedictorian of her class of 1944 at Kirkland, Illinois, worked at the DeKalb Co. Ag and waited for Merle. They married and raised two children.

While raising Ron and Gay, Muriel also helped others who needed a second mom. School room mother, junior church, Scouting and neighborhood block ''family'' were the stage for her kindness.

Muriel started working to help support the family when Merle injured his wrist at work and was told he might lose use of the hand. From a little baker to the Juicy Fruit House to division manager at Sears, Ron and Gay could be with her briefly when Merle's schedule back to work left a gap in their care.

After yearly family vacations throughout the states, Muriel and Merle retired to Bruno, Arkansas in 1981. They greatly enjoyed the singin' and pickin' gatherings, hiked in their woods, neighbors and church fellowship friends.

Muriel was preceded in home-going by her parents, brother, and beloved Merle.

Her love continues through her son Ronald Wayne (Joan) of Nashville, Michigan and daughter Gayle Ann of Bruno. Granddaughters Jennifer Rebecca (Ted) Harkema of Virginia and Kimberley Anne (Kevin) Stewart blessed Muriel with 3 great-grandchildren: Skylar Ray Harkema, Gabrielle Taylor Harkema and Jadelyn Gayle Stewart.

A memorial service will be at Yellville Methodist Church at 11:00 am on October 6.

Memorials may be made to St, Jude Children's Hospital and the Methodist church for The Call of Marion County.

Some of my favorite memories are the summers when my sister and I would be left to spend a couple weeks with our grandparents. Knowing it would be a little quiet out there where they lived for two little girls they always did a great job of planning fun things for us to do. It really was the time with them that made it special. I feel very blessed to have had my grandparents in my life for as long as I did. Even though there was always distance between us they never missed being there for all the special moments. They were loved greatly and will be missed daily.

I remember the little pink house in Illinois and the matching pink candies Grandma always had on hand to spoil my sister and me with. The house was modest, but always impeccably clean and felt so much like home because Grandma was there.

Visiting their home in Arkansas was also a treat, despite the added length to the commute from Michigan (are we there, yet?!). I'm sure I spent hours looking for arrowheads in the lane and just laughing with Grandma and Grandpa. They are both forever in my heart and brought fondly back to my memory whenever I spy a monarch butterfly.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Gay. Your mom was always so kind to me and I know Granny liked being her neighbor.
