Harold was born in the Cowan Barrens community near Yellville, Arkansas, February 27, 1933 to the late Robert J. and Addie (Hall) Mears. He had been employed as a respiratory therapist with Boone County Hospital (now NARMC) and had lived most of his life in Marion and Boone counties. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church in Yellville, Arkansas; was a member and past chaplain for Yellville American Legion Hut #61. Mr. Mears was instrumental in the formation of respiratory therapy at Boone County Hospital. He spent his years as a youth growing up in Rush, Arkansas and was one of the first Phantom Pilots of Yellville's Turkey Trot.
Harold is survived by his son Donald Mears and his wife, Teena, of Mountain Home, Arkansas; three daughters: Karen Tablish and her husband, Mike, of Yellville, Arkansas; Elaine McLean and her husband, Joe, of Yellville, Arkansas; and Sandy Anderson and her husband, Rick, of Harrison, Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren: Aaron McLean, Mallory McLean, Tristan Tablish, Trigg Anderson, Trey Anderson, Holly Squires, Brandon Camp, Kyle Camp, Nathaniel Mears, Jace Mears, Dalton Mears, Evan Mears, and Molly Mears; and four great-grandchildren: Maya McLean, Skyler Moses, Riley Camp, and Tyler Camp.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Mears; his parents; his brothers Jewell, Ewell, and Glenn; his sister Peggie Reed; and his grandson Quince Enloe Wood.
Visitation for Mr. Mears will be Monday, July 10, 2017 from 6:00 8:00 pm at Roller-Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church near Yellville with Pastor Kem Reeder officiating.
Interment will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Camp, Evan Mears, Tristan Tablish, Aaron McLean, Trigg Anderson, and Trey Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Anderson, Mike Tablish, Joe McLean, Lester Gibson, Dr. Robert Ahrens, Dr. Charles Klepper, Dr. Bill Mears, and the members of American Legion Hut #61 in Yellville, Arkansas.
Memorials may be made to Yellville American Legion Hut #61; or to Hospice of the Hills Hospice House in Harrison, Arkansas.
