Jewell Dean Benton, age 75, of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away April 9, 2017 at Baxter Regional Medical Center.

Jewell Dean was born June 25, 1941 in Peel, Arkansas to the late Joe and Marvis (Hudson) Benton.

He was employed by Keeter Furniture Company of Yellville when very young; worked for Marchant Lumber Company of Flippin, Arkansas and Mountain Home, Arkansas for 25 years and Meeks Building Center of Mountain Home for 10 years. He was a lifetime resident of Yellville and Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Yellville, Arkansas. He served three years and three months in the U.S, Army. He was a graduate of Yellville-Summit High School.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Edith ''Wassie'' (Cochran) Benton of the home; sisters-in-law Agnes Knust and Linda Cochran; nieces Glenna Cruz, Linda Lane, Donna Kay Treat, Penny Honey, Candy Walker, Karen Knust, and one nephew Alan Knust; as well as a great niece Kara Skinner who considered him her ''Uncle Granddad''. Jewell Dean was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Ray Benton, and a sister Edith Williams.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Layton Cemetery with Bert Benton officiating.

Pallbearers will be Dion Cruz, Danny Gilley, Bob Wedgeworth, Joe Dale Purdom, Jimmy Lane, and Jim Martin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Hicks, Carlos Still, David VanDyne, Larry Payne, Lowell Marchant, Hiram Davis, Darrell Wickersham, and Clois (Bill) Switzer.

Jewell is a tragic loss to all who knew him. He was always smiling and ready for "a good story or joke". We were very fortunate to know Jewell and Wassie these last few years. Jewell will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. Our sincerest sympathy and condolences to Wassie and all his family and friends.
