Suzanne Ledbetter

of Harrison, AR

February 14, 1941 - June 21, 2018

Suzanne Ledbetter, a master gardener in the Harrison Garden Club, loved the springtime. She loved working in her yard. So it is not surprising Suzanne lived throughout the entire spring, passing away early the morning of summer's first day, June 21, 2018.

Suzanne Ledbetter was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1941, to James L. Lane and Lee Hall Lane of Benton, Arkansas. In 1959 Suzanne graduated from Benton High School where she made many friends whom she cherished throughout the years and also met her eventual husband, Dr. Charles Ledbetter.

Suzanne attended the University of Arkansas and became a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She graduated in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in textile merchandising.

In 1963 Suzanne married Charles, who is best described as Suzanne's lifelong love, companion, yard man and dog sitter. Before and after marrying Charles, Suzanne worked several years as a buyer for the ladies' wear section of Pfeifer-Blass department store, including while Charles attended medical school and orthopedic residency at UAMS in Little Rock. After moving away from Arkansas with Charles while he was serving in the U.S. Navy, Suzanne returned and, in 1974, moved to Harrison, Arkansas. Harrison became her permanent home.

Charles and Suzanne joyfully raised their family of four girls in Harrison. Suzanne's faith and Christianity were important parts of her life. She attended First Presbyterian Church in Harrison and became a longstanding member of the Presbyterian Women.

Suzanne was also a master bridge player. Her love of bridge was surpassed only by her unending love of dogs. Suzanne had many dogs over the years that she adored -- and maybe a few she just tolerated. Suzanne volunteered at and supported the Ozark Humane Society of Harrison and found loving homes for countless dogs and cats that otherwise would have been euthanized.

Suzanne met, helped and loved many, many friends in Harrison and the surrounding area, including through her devotion to Alcoholics Anonymous. All of you were very important to her. You know who you are. She dearly loved you. Please try to help others just as Suzanne tried to help you.

Suzanne is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles Ledbetter of Harrison and four daughters: Lane Arnold (husband John) of Dallas, Texas; Brynn Thabet (husband Walid) of Roanoke, Virginia; Greer McCleary (husband Pat) of Maumelle, Arkansas; and Blair Herbert (husband Matt) of Hughesville, Maryland. Suzanne also has four dearly loved grandchildren: Landry and Finley Arnold, Malek Thabet and Gavin McCleary. In addition, Suzanne is survived by her sister, Mary Jim Ramsey of Little Rock, Arkansas (husband John) and niece and nephew Brooke Pillow and Hall Ramsey.

Suzanne's family would like to thank Suzanne's different caregivers for the professionalism and love shown to Suzanne in the recent weeks and months.

Memorials on Suzanne's behalf may be made to the Ozark Humane Society, 5147 Rock Springs Rd., Harrison, Arkansas 72601.

Suzanne's family is remembering her privately for now, but is planning on a celebration of Suzanne's life to occur sometime in mid to late July.

I was saddened to learn of Suzanne's passing. I send my most sincere condolences to Charles and her family. I will always remember Suzanne as one of my favorite classmates and good friend at Benton High School. At our last class reunion I visited with her and could tell she had not changed, and was the same wonderful, down to earth person I remembered in High School. She will be missed.

Charles, Mary Jim, Lane, Brynn, Greer, Blair, Grandchildren, I don't have words to say how sorry I am about Suzanne, yet even while saying that, I know Suzanne has Graduated from a life of witness to her God and a life of inspiration to everyone she met to the Glorious Reality of her Faith! Even though we don't understand God's plan for her, Suzanne now knows why her earthly journey unfolded as it did. And even though the healing prayed for by so many didn't happen the way we wanted, she is now well again, free of pain and at Perfect Peace with her God. Helen Keller said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they must be felt with the heart". Suzanne will be forever in the heart of everyone who loves her and everyone who was and will continue to be inspired by her Godly Wisdon, Faith, Courage and Strength. Such a well lived life we would all be blessed to have. God Bless and be with each of you always to provide the peace you need today and the courage and strength you need tomorrow, Big love, Janet

I hold all your family in my heart with prayers for strength, comfort, and the ability to see that God’s Plan is always at work.... He will give you what you need and He will NEVER forsake you. I loved Suzanne over the years and know that her loss will be immense but hopefully you will find comfort, in time, and know how blessed you are to have called her your mother, sister, friend, wife, mother-in-law, cousin, colleague, etc. she was a precious soul. May she rest and find her new home free from fear, angst, pain, and full of joy, as God has promised.
