John Drewry, age72, passed from this earth into the arms of the Lord Sunday, May 6, 2018. John was born March 28, 1946, in Harrison, the son of Paul M. and Blanche (Battenfield) Drewry, who preceded him in death as well as his brother, Tommy C. Drewry.
John enlisted in the US Navy shortly after high school and spent many tours in Viet Nam. He proudly served his country aboard the USS Illusive. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. His favorite sport was helping coach or watching his son Michael play sports. John retired from the City of Harrison as the Code Enforcement Officer in 2010 after 29 years of service. He was a member of the Branson Viet Nam Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Harrison Moose Lodge and was a member of Assembly of God Church.
John is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Martha (Phelps) Drewry; and his son Michael. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Minga Drewery, of Everton; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tommy and Jackie Phelps, of Harrison; his sister-in-law, Mary Phelps, of Conway; several nieces and nephews; many great-and great-great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
Visitation was at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home Thursday, May 10, 2018. The funeral was11:00 AM, also at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home. Interment was in Maple Leaf Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Drewery, Ruben Drewery, Billy Phelps, Jerid Watts, John Robinson and Nelson West.
Honorary Pallbearers were the City of Harrison employees, past and present.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make a donation to any children's charity or the charity of your choice.
