Mary Ellen Wootan

of Harrison, AR

May 28, 1941 - February 15, 2018

Mary Ellen (Braden) Wootan, age 76, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, after a long, courageous fight with an extended illness. She was born May 28, 1941, in Marshall, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Wanda McNully, of McAlester, Oklahoma; and her sister, Verly Marie Easter, of Seattle, Washington.

Mary graduated from McAlester High School in McAlester, Oklahoma and married First Sergeant (retired) Clyde Wootan, on August 16, 1960. A military spouse, she and Clyde traveled the world serving long overseas tours in Germany and Japan. Following her husband's retirement from the U. S. Army, they made their home in Batavia. Mary enjoyed her friends dearly who, in turn, celebrated her master jelly and jam making skills.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Clyde Wootan; her two brothers, J. C. Braden of Sedalia, Missouri and Jerry McNully of McAlester, Oklahoma; her sons, Jerry Wootan of Batavia and Colonel Mark A. Wootan and his wife Diane Frazier, formerly of Benton, Arkansas, who are currently serving in Europe. Mary is also survived by three grandchildren, Robert Wootan of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Katie Wootan of Saint Augustine, Florida, and Jackson Wootan of Rochester, New York.

Visitation was Monday, February 19, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Batavia; with funeral service following at the church, with Bro. Kerry Liggett and Bro. Tollie Sutterfield officiating.

Interment was in Dunkard Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jerry Wootan, Robert Wootan, C. J. Andrews, Dennis Deitrick, Bobby Estes, Mike Mayfield and Kenneth Tanksley.

Honorary pallbearers were Viola Williams, Freda Mathis, Brenda Andrews, Donna Moore, Pauline Simmons, Wanda Shields, Linda Dennis and Janice Wootan.

In lieu of flowers, the family would respectfully suggest donations be made to Hospice of the Hills, PO Box 1927, Harrison, AR 72602.

Mary will be missed greatly. She was very special to me and I have very fond memories of spending the night at my best friends house and how I was treated like a member of the family by Mary and Clyde.

Aunt Mary, you have always been there to listen with a caring ear. You never judged anyone but always found the good in people. I’m going to miss our in-depth and sometimes funny conversations. You always made me feel special and I thank you for loving me. I will miss you every day until we meet again. I love you always and forever 💞

Sweet Mary, you always kept me smiling with your stories of when you were overseas with Clyde. Loved your since of humor. You will be missed by all who know you... Looking forward to wrapping my arms around you again when we see each other again on the river banks of Jorden.
