of Valley Springs, AR

March 1, 1936 - October 31, 2017

Donald Lee Fullerton, age 81, of Valley Springs, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at his home. He was born March 1, 1936, in Valley Springs, the son of Charlie Hugh and Opal Agnes (Wallace) Fullerton, in the same house in which his father was born. He graduated from Valley Springs High School in 1954 and attended Arkansas Tech in Russellville. An avid Valley Springs Tigers basketball fan, he and Cara traveled all over the state to see the Tigers play.

He worked as a draftsman for many years at Turney Wood Products and Harrison Furniture. He and his wife raised registered Black Angus cattle on their farm. He served in the Arkansas National Guard retiring after 33 years. A founding member of the Valley Springs Fire Department, he served as captain and was on the board, retiring after 41 years.

Don had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid reader and loved to travel. With Cara Mae, they visited 49 states, Canada, Mexico and several countries in Europe. A favorite fall adventure for them included trips to Colorado to ride the trains. Developing an interest in genealogy in his early twenties, Don continued to research through the last year of his life.

Don was a member of the Model "T" Ford Club of America and spent many years restoring "Old Mary". He and Cara attended numerous car shows, winning lots of trophies. He was also a member of the Boone County Cattlemen's Association, American Angus Association, and Bellefonte Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, James Charles Fullerton. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Cara Mae (Stockton) Fullerton; his daughter, Cynthia Harkey and husband Bruce, of Little Rock; his daughter-in-law, Nechi Emerson Fullerton, of Little Rock; his sisters, Joyce Miller of Burlington, Washington and Carolyn Eoff and husband Edwin of Harrison. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Cara Stewart Fullerton of New York, New York, Kirby Ruth Fullerton of Edinburgh, Scotland, and Thomas Jarrott Harkey and Nathan Charles Harkey, both of Little Rock; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Clyde Johnson, of Harrison; his nieces and nephews, Marcia Miller Finney of Concrete, Washington, Linda (Vince) Eoff Washam of Harrison, Mark Eoff and Harold (Sandra) Johnson, all of Harrison and Doug (Jill) Johnson of Springfield, Missouri.

Funeral service was Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Bellefonte Church of Christ, with Ray Crawford officiating. Visitation was an hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Robison, Tim Crunkleton, Mark Eoff, Harold Johnson, Doug Johnson and Vince Washam.

Honorary pallbearers were Clyde Johnson, Rex Brazell, David Witty, Wendell McCutchen, Buddy West and Billy Ed Hefley.

The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Klepper, Dr. Scott Ferguson, Valley Springs First Responders, the staff of Hospice of the Hills and the other special caregivers for their compassionate care and devotion.

Memorials may be made to the Paragould Children's Home, Inc., 5515 Old Walcott Road, Paragould, AR 72450.

Dear Family,
I was saddened to hear that Don had passed away. Don and I enjoyed talking at the Post Office and sharing news about sports...especially VS sports. He was such a kind person and loved his community. He will be greatly missed.

So sorry for your loss may you find peace and comfort in the words spoken at 2 Corinthians 1:3 & 4" ( 3) Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort,  (4 ) who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we get from God.

Fullertons, a name much loved by the Carter Family! My father was John Carter. He was holding a meeting at Bellefonte when I took my future husband to meet Dad.
