Vernon Eugene Maxwell, age 91, of Harrison, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Cox South in Springfield, Missouri. He was born June 20, 1926, in Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of Vern E. and Hazel (Crannell) Maxwell.
Vernon was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he served proudly in World War II and the Korean War where he received three Bronze Stars.
Vernon managed a wholesale refrigeration warehouse company for many years. He then taught air conditioning and refrigeration for 19 years at Northwest Vocational School, Sheridan Vocational School, Atlantic Vocational School and Manpower Vocational School until he retired.
Vernon was married to the love of his life, Frances (Phillips) Maxwell for almost 52 years until her passing. He enjoyed gardening, his church, visiting with family and he loved volunteering for the community. He was also an active member of the Lions Club.
Vernon is survived by his son, David E. Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Maxwell; a brother, Dr. Wayne Maxwell; and his sister, Elsie Maxwell.
Memorial service was Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Harrison First Presbyterian Church, with Bro. D. C. Adams officiating.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Godspeed, Mr. Vernon. We will miss you.
Vernon was a true man of God. His kindness, love and patience encouraged others. It was an honor to spend time with this Veteran and my friend. I will miss him. Prayers for the family.
