George L. Keys, age 76, of Pyatt, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in Yellville. He was born April 25, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Ralph and Julia (Rogue) Keys. He was preceeded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph Keys, Jr. and David Keys; and a sister, Peggy Lightner.
George came to Arkansas as a young man. He loved the area and people so much that he never wanted to go back to his home state. He chose a career path of many directions. George worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 8 years. He came to Batesville, Arkansas with his grandfather where he started working on the railroad. He also worked many years at Boone County Hospital and had worked for Marion County Road Department laying gravel roads for the jail and working inside the office as well. George was also a volunteer fireman in Pyatt for 20 years and was on the Pyatt City Council for 30 years.
George had some great pastimes, some of them being an avid deer hunter and a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also loved NASCAR and he absolutely loved fishing on Bull Shoals Lake where he had a favorite fishing spot. Some people may remember him as ''Big K'', as that was his CB handle for many years and was a hobby that he thoroughly enjoyed.
George is survived by his wife, Jerry Keys, of the home; his son, George Jr. (Renee) Keys; his brothers, Thomas, Harry, and Lewis Keys; a sister, Betty Phillips; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Lighthouse For Jesus Tabernacle, 2132 MC 6014, Yellville, AR, with Pastor Danny Spence officiating.
George will be missed by many in the Pyatt area.
Loved listening to his stories about working on the railroad and served with him on the Pyatt Fire Department . He always served his community when he could.
