Charles Ramsey

of Harrison, AR

March 5, 1932 - November 11, 2016

Charles Ode Ramsey, age 84, of Harrison, passed from this life on Friday, November 11, 2016. He was born March 5, 1932 in Garland City, Arkansas. His parents, Carl and Annie (Stanford) Ramsey, brother Curtis Ramsey, and son, Dean Ramsey preceded him in death.

Charles graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1954 with a degree in Business Administration. He was a letterman for the Arkansas Razorback football team. After college he worked for J.C. Penney Co., but in 1970, he was able to fulfill his dream of living in Harrison, close to the Buffalo River. He moved to Harrison to begin the first of two successful businesses: a clothing store, Harrison House, and later, Ramsey Nursery. Charles served as president of the Harrison Noon Lion's Club, the Harrison Chamber of Commerce, and the North Arkansas College Board.

All of Charles' life included a love of nature. He enjoyed gardening and fishing and appreciated every day of living in the Ozarks. He loved Wyoming, and enjoyed taking his family and friends on numerous camping and fishing trips there. He also took great pleasure in traveling in their RV, and especially loved visiting the coast of Maine. Charles was soft-hearted. Over the years, he was loved by a host of cats and dogs.
Charles had a deep, abiding belief in the "Good Lord". He was a member of First Christian Church in Harrison for 46 years where he served as elder, deacon, trustee, and chairman of the board. His integrity and kind heart were obvious to all who knew him.

Charles began dating the love of his life, Rita, in the eighth grade. He is survived by Rita (Burgess) Ramsey; his daughter, Cheryl Satterfield, and husband, Greg of Green Forest; and his son, Chris Ramsey of Harrison. He also leaves grandchildren Matt Satterfield and wife Lauren of Little Rock; Allison Satterfield of Denver, Colorado; Joe Ramsey and wife Olivia of Little Rock; Marcus Ramsey of Fayetteville; Katelynn Ramsey and Maddie Ramsey of Harrison; and new great-grandsons Henry Satterfield of Little Rock and Wright Dean Ramsey of Little Rock.

Visitation was Sunday, November 13, 2016, at First Christian Church.

Funeral service was Monday, November 14, 2016, at First Christian Church, with Dr. David Artman officiating.

Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dr. Charles Adair, David Feber, Lloyd Johnson, Glen Pickett, Marcus Ramsey, Joe Ramsey, Greg Satterfield and Matt Satterfield.

Honorary pallbearers were the Hearthstone Sunday School Class, and the Richard Hudson Coffee Club.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 915 S. Maple St. Harrison, AR 72601 or Ozark Humane Society, 5147 Rock Springs Rd. W, Harrison, AR 72601.

My sincere sympathy goes out to your family. May the True God, in time grant you strength and comfort, so that you may feel a measure of peace during this difficult time (Philippians 4:6, 7). For now, may fond memories and the love and support of your many friends sustain you.
