Verna "Dean" Willodine Brown

of Independence, MO

June 18, 1933 - March 24, 2016

Verna Willodine ''Dean'' Brown passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital in Blue Springs, Missouri. After a long battle with health issues she left this world peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family. Dean, as she was better known as, age 82, was born June 18, 1933, the daughter of Oliver and Jocie Lorean (Clark) Villines in Low Gap, Arkansas, the eldest of six children. Dean was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Argie Eugene ''Gene'' Brown, in 2012; and her parents.

Dean lived in Independence, Missouri most of her adult life with her husband and three children. She retired from Montgomery Ward's in 1988 after 30 years of service. In 1990, she and her husband Gene moved to Warsaw, Missouri to make their home after he retired from Butler Manufacturing.

Dean spent her time making quilts, which she loved. Also, she loved having her gardens; and she cooked, baked, and canned anything she could get her hands on. When she and Gene first moved to Warsaw, she also enjoyed fishing whether at Truman Dam or being able to get out on the lake in their boat. She missed that when her health wouldn't permit it anymore. She also loved attending music gatherings with her husband when he used to play his mandolin and guitar. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Dean is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Jordan; her sons, Terry Brown and Ronnie Brown; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Lucille Mathews, Flora Clary, and Sheila Tucker and her husband Carey; 2 brothers and their wives, Roy and Nancy Villines and James and Judy Villines; and many nieces and nephews. She will be truly missed.

Visitation is 11:00 to 12:00 PM, Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home; funeral service is 12:00 PM, Wednesday at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Villines officiating.

Pallbearers are Dustin Schmitz, Bobby Butt, Trenton Butt, David Jordan, Carey Tucker and Ronnie Brown.
