Glen "G. A." Austin Nelle

of Harrison, AR

January 12, 1938 - August 13, 2015

Glen Austin "G. A." Nelle, Jr, age 77, of Harrison, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015. He was born January 12, 1938, in Austin, Texas, the son of Glen and Rose Nelle. Glen spent his childhood in numerous places including Texas, Wyoming, Arkansas, Venezuela and Mexico.

Glen graduated high school from Kemper Military Academy in Boonville, Missouri in 1957. He spent a few years at the University of Arkansas and the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City. After college, he managed a zinc and ore mine in the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico. Glen moved to Western Grove in 1963, where he began breeding registered black Angus cattle at Glen Rose Angus Farm. At the same time, he bought his first bulldozer and began dozing. In 1970, he started Cash and Nelle Construction with Bob Cash. In 1980, he continued his dozing work as G.A. Nelle Construction and pursued that work, which he loved, until he passed.

Glen loved the Ozarks, his family, and his friends. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was a adventurous character who loved to hunt, fish, discuss politics and admire his view of Boat Mountain from his front porch. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving when the whole family gathered to share stories and 'break bread' together.

Glen is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Betty, of the home; his daughters and sons-in-law, Margot Nelle and Andy Davidson of Oregon; Janis Nelle of Oregon, Belinda and Kevin Vaclavicek of Valley Springs; and Margaret and Josh Rutledge; and his son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Lashana Nelle.

Glen is also survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Pat and William Niven of California and Mary Margaret Medellin of Texas; his grandchildren, Fraser, Nolan, Courtney, Bethany, Sarah, Mackenzie, Glen IV, Maggie and Abi; his favorite four-legged buddy, Boone; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Douglas and William; and his son-in-law, Charles Magness.

Visitation was Monday, August 17, 2015, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral service was Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Valley Springs First Baptist Church with Ken Jerome officiating.

Interment was in Western Grove Cemetery.

To my dear family,

I have so many fond memories of Big Glen as he was known to me. When I would visit from Kansas in the 1970's I was treated just like one of his girls. And there were quite a few of us at that time. I always admired his love and dedication he had for his family. Qualities I'm sure he has passed onto his children and grandchildren. He will be missed until we see him in the future.

Love you all, Marcie and John Ensley
