James E. (Jim) Prater, age 68, of Germantown, passed this life on July 8, 2016, to be with the Lord. Mr. Prater was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Prater. Mr. Prater is survived by his sister Judye Prater of Las Vegas, NV. Mr. Prater is also survived by his nephew Jim Bruce, along with his wife Heather Bruce and their children Colin and Claire, all of Germantown, TN.
Mr. Prater was born in Memphis, TN on December 11, 1947, but he grew up in Parkin, AR. Mr. Prater graduated from Parkin High School and went on to attend Arkansas State University. He was an accomplished billiards player, and he had a lifelong love of motorcycles, which he enjoyed riding for most of his life.
Mr. Prater led a colorful life as a member of the Sindicate Motorcycle Club, prior to touring with the rock band Black Oak Arkansas in the 1970s. Mr. Prater also served as a loan officer for Union Planter's Bank and as a sales manager for a local car dealership, before finding a home at the LM Berry Company, where he worked for 22 years before retiring in 2002. During his career, Mr. Prater won numerous sales awards, including the President's Club for being one of the top salesmen in the company.
Arrangements for Mr. Prater will be handled by Roller Funeral Home in West Memphis, AR. Visitation will be held from 1:30 pm 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 16, 2016, with funeral services held immediately afterward. Interment will be at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, AR, immediately following the funeral service.
Mr. Prater was an animal lover, and the family requests that any memorials be made to the Memphis Humane Society or a shelter or animal advocacy group of the donor's choice.
So sorry to hear about Jim. I lived in Earle, but knew Jim during high school. Thoughts and prayers to the family.
If there were a Hall of Fame for selling yellow page advertising, Jim would surely be included. Rest in peace friend.
So sad to hear of Jim's passing. I've known Jim since we were babes living in Parkin, Ar. Always will remember my schoolmate from 1st grade to 12th grade. Rest peacefully friend.
I'm very sad to hear of Jim's passing. We met through his work and we had a mutual love of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Jim was always kind and hilarious. Rest in peace my friend.
