Hozey J. ''H.J.'' Phillips, 87, of Conway, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 6, 2017. He was born Tuesday, January 7, 1930 in Trion, Georgia to the late William Morris Phillips and the late Della Boatner Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a retired furniture store owner and also retired from Virco. He played the guitar and the harmonica and he loved to fish, hunt and be with his blessed church family of Northside Apostolic Church where he was a member. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Elizabeth Phillips; second wife, Patricia Fougerousse Craig; and 5 siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Angela Griffin of Conway; son, Tom McBay of New York; grandchildren, Kyle Griffin (Taylor), Elizabeth Griffin and Christopher Griffin; great-grandchildren, Noah Griffin and soon to be here, Emery Griffin; sisters, Ruth Everett of Trion, Georgia and Ida Ely of Opp, Alabama; a host of nieces and nephews; and many other friends and beloved church family.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 8, 2017, 1:00PM-2:30PM at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway. Graveside service will be 3:00PM, Saturday at Crestlawn Memorial Park with military honors.
Condolences to the family. He was a family friend and I have numerous memories of him as a child. He will be missed by the Smedley family.
