Louise Shelton

of Searcy,

January 13, 1933 - April 8, 2017

Louise Shelton, age 84, of Kensett died Saturday afternoon at Unity Health from complications following a stroke. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in law, David and Brandy Shelton of Coal Hill, Arkansas and Jim and Lori Shelton of Searcy, Arkansas. She is also survived by her sister Odell Morgan of Kensett and three precious granddaughters over whom she doted: Madison Shelton of Coal Hill, Sarah Rowan and husband Bennett, of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Hannah Giles and husband Jake, of Ward, Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Glenn Shelton, by her parents, John and Ruth Smith, and by one sister, Maurine Chambliss. She was a longtime member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ where she was a children's Sunday school teacher and was an active member until her health prevented it.

She was born on January 13, 1933 near Harrisburg, Arkansas. She was a graduate of Harrisburg High School and, upon graduation, began working in the local office of Arkansas Power and Light. It was in the early 1950s that she would meet a young World War II veteran who also came to work there and would become her husband. They were married in 1956 and built a house in Kensett in 1958, which would become their home for the next fifty-four years. She was a hard and effective worker all her life and held various positions at Arkansas Power and Light, Clary, the Kensett Public Schools, Darrell Saul Farms, and Bryce Corporation, from where she retired. In 1996, she and her husband opened Shelton Family Restaurant in Kensett. As was her forte', she managed the books of the business as well as provided many of the family recipes that were used. The establishment quickly became a very popular local favorite until it was destroyed by a tornado in 2001.

Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Roller Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy with the funeral to follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be at White County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Harding University and earmarked for the new Glenn and Louise Shelton Memorial Scholarship which will assist deserving students in the Carter College of Business.

She will be greatly missed and the memory of her cherished.

Sorry for your loss I know she will be greatly missed. I remember many days at your house playing football in the front yard , basketball around back and riding horses in the back yard and down at the farm and Mrs Shelton always being there. She was a sweet lady and I'm thankful to have known her. Your in our prayers but now she's with Glenn and Jesus and that is the very best. Once again I'm truly sorry.

I never had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Shelton but she must have been an awesome lady because I know David and she raised a fine son. May God bring the family comfort during this time.

Louise was a lovely, sweet Christian woman. I enjoyed talking to her very much at church and at other occasions. She will be missed by so many friends and loved ones.
