James Madison ClinkingbeardI am a Veteran.

of Calico Rock, AR

May 24, 1927 - March 12, 2017

James Madison Clinkingbeard, age 89, of Calico Rock, Arkansas passed to his eternal rest Sunday, March 12, 2017 in Calico Rock. He was born May 24, 1927 in Custer, Arkansas to Adlie Brundage and Cora (Willis) Clinkingbeard. On April 3, 1948, Jim married Wilma Lee Hart (Billie) at the Baptist parsonage on College Street in Mountain Home, beginning a lifetime together of faithful service to church and community.
For 66 years these life-partners owned and operated main street retail merchandising in Calico Rock, establishing a shoe store, a clothing store, and an icecream parlor, which also incorporated a restaurant. Many will remember these establishments with the original store being called ''Family Shoes'' and, with the addition of clothing, ''Family Shoes and Dry Goods''. Jim contributed handsomely to the welfare of Calico Rock, as a volunteer fireman for 25 years, through serving terms on the school board and the city council and as a dedicated Christian. He accepted Christ as his Savior at age 9, during a revival in Viola, Arkansas and for the rest of his life he served the One he regarded as Lord. He was the church treasurer for more than 25 years, served on the building committee when the church building was built in 1957, and was a deacon for more than 60 years. Jim was also an active Mason, a member of Acacia Lodge #625 for 66 years (1957-present). He was a certified lecturer for several years and served as a District Deputy Grand Master in 1957. Jim was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific during 1944 and 1945.
Jim is survived by his wife, Billie of the home, two sons: Paul (Trish) Clinkingbeard of Mountain Home and Bruce (Pam) Clinkingbeard of Calico Rock, by five grandchildren: Jody (Amy), James, Casey, Amanda (Aaron) and Amber, by five great-grandchildren: Colton, Addison, Alex, Audric and Trey. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne (Janice) Clinkingbeard of Cotter and by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and by a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charlie (a veteran of the Korean conflict who died while on active duty at Fort Hood, Texas), and three sisters: Margaret, Mary and Vera Sue.

I am daughter of Mamie Ruth (Clinkenbeard) Johnson. Benjamin Franklin Clinkenbeard (my grand father).and Jims father were brothers. I spoke to jim on the phone a few times. Jim had lots of good stories to tell me. He was so sweet and comfortable to speak with, as if we were very close family.

I met Jim through his brother Wayne, our GP.
Despite the short stay at Calico Rock, it was very enjoyable and pleasant to share with Jim and Billie, his wife.
God has it in His holy glory and we know that to all who love God all things help us to do good.

Jim was the only person I knew who remembered all the details of the Henderson, Custer, and Herron areas of the Norfork River before the lake was built. We spent quite a bit of time on the phone as I learned more of my family history. He never complained of his ailments, only wanted to talk history. We are so sorry, and we'll miss him from now on. We were so sorry to read of Jim's passing. Jim and Mrs. Billie were some of the first people we met when we started coming to Calico Rock in the late 90's. We shared many cups of coffee with them and learned so very much about Calico Rock from them. Jim will be very much missed by us. Much love and many thoughts and prayers for Jim's family and friends. John 3:16-"For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
