Graveside services for Johnny Atkinson of Mellwood, Arkansas will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena, Arkansas . The family will greet friends Wednesday evening, November 2, 2016 from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena.
Johnny was born June 4, 1927 to Ella Mae and Authur Atkinson in Louisville, Mississippi. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend. He was a retired farmer and he loved nothing better than to get in his boat, catch fish and fry them up for his family. Many memories were made sitting around a big pan of fried fish. He was a member of the Elaine Church of God.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sylvia; 2 daughters, Janie Jones (Johnny) and Johnnie Fridell (Tommy); 4 grandchildren, Timothy Jones (Holly), Jeremy Jones (Katie), Amanda Lee and Brandon Caery; 2 step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Alvarez (Alex) and Jennifer Rotondaro (Paul); 8 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Ruby Lynch, Billie Rigsby (Bill) and Hilda Pruitt; and a longtime friend and care-giver Kathy Hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Horace Atkinson; 2 sisters, Lee Slavens and Lula Shepard; and a son, Alfred Atkinson.
