I started visiting Maxine's store when I was about 13, in 1974. She taught me so much. I tell people that the best Christmas present I ever got was a $25 "gift certificate" from her store. It was a credit written out of a simple receipt book. Most of the time the only thing I had in my wallet. I would come in pickout $2 or $3 worth and she mark it off my slip. It lasted until May. RIP Maxine. Tom

Ms Maxine was one of the neatest people I knew, her shop was the best, anything you wanted she could and would find for you, I have a beautiful fireplace mantel she found me, has graced my home for over 25 years. May you "find your treasures" in heaven, for a true treasure is now resting in eternal peace. God Bless

To the Family:

Max was such a special treasure to the City of Helena. Over the years, I always looked forward to visiting her shop on Cherry Street and talking with her. She was always so helpful and had a keen sense of what a customer wanted. I was very glad to have known her for the wonderful person she was.

Dear Max,
For 45 years you have been my dear friend, never will there be another like you. You have been a pillar of the Cherry Street community for as long as I've known you, a big supporter for the revival of the City of Helena, getting it back to the "Grand and Glorious Lady" that it once was. The stories that you have told me about growing up there sounded wonderful to me. I was born and raised in West Helena, and as a young boy it was always a special treat to get to go to the big city of Helena. I learned a lot of history about the city from you. And when Dottie and I married, we filled a two story house from "Max's Second Hand Store." I love you my friend, and I will miss you big time. I know that the Lord has a special place for you in heaven.
