We were so sorry to hear of Mr Bonner's passing. We loved him with all our heart as well as Bobby Jr. and Phillip. Oh how our world has changed since Bonners has closed. I miss the days of shopping in there and seeing all of your friendly faces. I felt like I was one of your family as well. You will never know the comfort and joy that your dad brought to us everytime we entered that store and personally carried out our cart full of groceries. He always had a big smile on his face and never forgot to tell you that you were open til 10 if we forgot anything. I will always treasure my memories of him. Please know that we love you all and we are here for you if you need us. Rest in love Mr Bonner. Love, Betsy & Eugene

Bobby, Philip, and family:

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your sweet dad, whom I knew as Mr. Bonner. My parents are Mary and Kacy Jones, and I grew up going to Bonner's Grocery with them. Mr. Bonner would always be in his little office and we always would say "Hi" and he would give me money to get gum out of the gum ball machine at the front of the store. After I married and moved off, I always made sure to find him (when I visited my parents in Little Rock) in his regular seat at The Church At Rock Creek and get a hug and a nice conversation before church. He was the sweetest man and a nice part of my child hood. There will never be another Mr. Bonner. Thinking of you during this time.

I was so very sorry to hear of Mr. Bonner's passing. He was always so friendly... always had a smile when we came into the store. He gave my oldest daughter, Amber, her first job, and I remember him telling my youngest, Zach, that Bobby and Phillip were his "little boys". Zach always looked for him and "his boys" when we came into the store, and they always took time to talk to him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you deal with this loss. May God bless you and give you peace.

Mr Bonner was a Great man. While being a single mom I would often shop with him. He was always kind to us. He didn't meet no stranger. My only daughter would always ask if we going to Bonner's grocery today? Bonner's grocery store the only store we knew. Even when neighbors in the Wake field area he would send a food basket. I had to wash weekly. I would bug Mr Bonner's about 10.00 worth of quarters. He would reply hey gurl what do u think this is. This aint no bank this a grocery store. Sometimes he would say you must be having a poker game tonight. LOL!!! Absent from the body and present with the Lord. Praying for the family. Til we meet again. Tracelyn & Keshia

I'm very sad to hear about Mr. Bonner. My prayers go out to his entire family, especially to Bobby and Phillip. The Bonner's are family to me. I grew up going to Bonner's Thriftway my whole childhood and young adult life. My brother, Robin worked there and when I finally got a work permit at 14, Mr. Bonner gave me a job in the Deli.
I remember Mr. Bonner giving me candy when I was little. He was always so sweet and kind to me. Thank you for the memories..

Bobby and Bitsi,
I was so sorry to learn of Mr. Bonner's passing. I didn't know him very well but I know the two of you so I know he was a great person. He went out of his way to help his customers and make their shopping experience and enjoyable. I took Mother many times to your store; she really liked it and your incredible customer.

I am so sorry for your loss. I continue to pray for you and your family.

I was saddened to read of Bob’s passing today. He was such a great guy and very aggressive and talented grocer, one of the best! I was his Wonder Bread man for many years and became a good friend to him during that time. I’m sure that heaven’s gate has opened and he is in God’s glory today! Our prayers for the family that all may find comfort and peace during this difficult time.

Mr. Bonner was such a big part of my childhood. I think he was for so many of us. He knew us all by name, who our parents were, things that you just don’t encounter anymore in our rush rush rush society. I can still remember him calling me over to the service booth and knowing we barely had money for the essentials much less candy, he would very seriously question me about how I was doing in school, was I minding my parents and then tell me I could pick one piece of candy but that he better not hear of me acting up. What a wonderful memory to have and what a sweet way of giving back by encouraging kids to do well.

I grew up shopping at that store! Never will forget his kindness... giving us a penny for gum and when mom and dad devoiced... I I would come in there lots of weeks and sign a ticket for groceries for me and brothers while my mom worked 2 jobs... and then I’d go in there on her payday and pay off the tickets... then even after I got married and kids he would still help put me out in hard times... he was a kind and giving man! He will be greatly missed

I grew up in Wakefield and would ride my bike Audells drug store and Bonners almost everyday, Mr. Bonner always gave me a sucker and would let me come up in his booth and page Jerry the butcher on the microphone! My best memories are shopping with my Momma, Judy Wade, on an almost daily basis. When I was about 7 years old I told Mr. Bonner that my dream was to be a checker at his store:) He laughed and told me to dream higher but I was always welcome! Like most kids, I moved away and both of my parents had long passed away , but many years later I took my own little girl into the store just to look around and Mr. Bonner happened to be there and he remembered me!! He said I looked just like my Momma which was the best compliment ever! He was a precious person that did sooo much for that little neighborhood. My prayers are with the family and May he rest in love .
