Mary Frances King

June 6, 2018

Mary Frances King, age 70, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2018. She was born to the late Royal Augustus Putnam and Marguerite Alice Dryden Putnam on January 29, 1948 in San Antonio, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Patricia Putnam and Betty Yancey.

Mary is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Stanley King of North Little Rock; daughter, Daphne (Vernon) Braswell of Cabot; two sons, Daniel (O'Brien) King of Midlothian, Texas and Joseph (Nicole) King of Rogers; seven grandchildren, Jessica and Shelby Braswell, Alexandria, Kendell and Tyler King, Isabelle and Olivia King; two great-grandchildren, Roman and Everleigh Shoup; two sisters; Marguerite Alice Linney and Barbara Putnam; and one brother, Royal Edward Putnam.

Mary proudly served our country in the US Navy from 1968 to 1971 as a Aerographer (AG2). While in service, she met the love of her life, Stanley King, while they were both stationed in Hawaii. Stanley was in the Air Force at the time, so when Mary's service time was up with the US Navy and she was honorably discharged, she joined the US Air Force, she served this branch of service from 1972 to 1974 and then was honorably discharged. Mary loved meteorology and all things to do with the weather, so it was only natural that she take a job for the National Weather Service as a Electronics Technician in 1974 till retirement. During her career, Mary and her husband had 3 beautiful children, whom they love dearly, and raised them to be strong, independent adults. Once retired, Mary loved to spend her days enjoying the company of her husband who was retired from the military, her children, whom she was most proud of and her beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved to spoil! Mary has left her beloved family an amazing legacy and she will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.

My deepest sympathy on your loss. Mary was a hard worker who left many friends she made around the state while working on the many automated weather observing sites. I was glad to have her on our team at the NWS.

I had the privilege of working with Mary at the National Weather Service starting in 1977. She was a friendly and pleasant co-worker. My wife, also named Mary, and I will pray for the repose of Mary's soul and for her family. May the Lord's face shine upon her.

Our Dear Daniel,
We were so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom. It is never easy to lose someone so close...Our prayers are for comfort and peace for you and your family as you work through this difficult time. You have a special place in my heart, Daniel, remembering the long drive you made to be a pall bearer for my own mother.
Although Jim and I cannot be there, know that we love you and continue to pray for all of you as you move through these coming days.
Psalm 91:1-2

In His Love,
