Derwood L. Johnson of Sherwood, passed from this life into his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. He was born in Gould, AR to the late Rufus C. and Mattie Knight Johnson.
He was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in North Little Rock and a life member of VFW in North Little Rock.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Hoyt, Harold and RC Johnson and one sister, Hazel Ashcraft and his loving wife of 63 years, Ellen Jean Johnson.
Derwood was an Air Force Veteran, with a career spanning over 21 years. He served during World War II in the United States Navy and served in Korea and Vietnam in the Air Force. He also retired from the State of Arkansas with 18 years of service as a collection officer at Arkansas State Hospital.
He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by those who knew him.
Derwood is survived by two sons, Robert Johnson (Laurie) of North Little Rock and Ray Johnson (Glenda) of Searcy; one daughter, Lynn Narkinsky (John) of Sherwood; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Hazelip (Jimmy); and a host of other family members.
The family will receive friends at 9:00 a.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at Central Baptist Church, 5200 Fairway Avenue, North Little Rock, AR 72116 followed by a celebration of his life at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I did not know Derwood well, but I visit another resident at Fox Ridge often and would see him almost every morning. He always had a smile and a cheerful greeting for everyone! I really liked him. He is missed!
Derwood was an outstanding and Loving friend and father. I will truly miss that wonderful smile of his and all the hugs and kisses he gave me when I visited him. It was truly an honor to know this man. His new life will begin anew with his beloved wife Jean and the Lord.

My heart aches for the loss you all are feeling. Many good times were had with Jean and Derwood. Not a day passes without my thinking of and missing Jean. I know Derwood is so happy to again be with Jean. You all are in my prayers for comfort.
