Leta Emison Nolen

of North Little Rock, AR

February 17, 1905 - March 28, 2017

Leta Emison Nolen, went to be with her Lord on March 28, 2017 after living a faithful life of 112 years. She was born February 17, 1905 in Vilonia, Arkansas (Faulkner County) to William Franklin and Laura Ann Wright Emison.

Predeceased by her parents, her husband, James Frederick Nolen, and siblings, Floyd, Esther, Lottie, Forrest, and Mary Katy. Also predeceased by great nephew, Eddie Emison, and other nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Survived by great nephews, Larry, Ben, and Dan Emison, great niece, Shelby Jean Anderson, cousin, Bob Wright, and many generations of other relatives.

Leta belonged to First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock, Arkansas. Many members of the church and her Sunday School Class visited her at the nursing home and especially for her many birthday parties.

She was a very independent woman and lived in North Little Rock in the house she and her late husband built in the 1940s. At age 103, it was necessary that she move to Robinson Nursing & Rehab.

Until her late-90s, Leta was an avid bridge player, beating out many much younger opponents.
She drove her Ford Maverick car until she was 100 but gave up driving only because she had a fender-bender.

Leta loved going to the horse races in Hot Springs. Her great nephew, Larry Emison, took her several times when she was in her 90s and even when she was 100. Larry recalls one of the first times he picked her up, she was waiting on her front porch with a glass jar of water in a crumpled brown paper bag. He convinced her they had bottles of water there, so she left it behind.

Leta will be remembered as a ''miracle'' for living 112 years. She was always so appreciative of anything you did for her. Her mind was sharp until just the last few years.

A special thanks to her friend, Carolyn, who looked after her like she was her own grandmother. Also thanks to the staff of Robinson Nursing & Rehab and to her many relatives and good friends who helped along her wonderful journey of life.

Cousin Leta help me start recording our Emison Family History. She provided LOTS of pictures for me to copy and return. And told MANY wonderful family stories.

This was around 1987 when I became interested in family history.

My Dad, Emitt Hugh Emison, would go and visit and take her to the family cemetery in Vilonia, Arkansas. She insisted on marking John Emison's two wives graves (they were unmarked). This was her grandfather whom she never met. He died in 1899.

She was a caregiver and a wonderful family (oral) historian .

She will be greatly missed!

We visited with Miss Leta many times while she was a resident of Robinson Health Care. Her fierce independence showed through her sweet personality, from time to time. Wish we could have known her in her younger years.

My brother Joseph and I used to mow Mrs Nolen's lawn during our secondary school years. She was one of our first lawn mowing customers in the neighborhood. She was so kind to us and to everyone she met. May God bless her soul. RIP!
