W. E. "Sonny" Bridges Sr. 78, of West Memphis died Monday, September 4, 2017 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Sonny was a member of West Memphis First Baptist Church, he was a retired Law Enforcement Office serving with the Arkansas State Police for nine years, then as a special agent for Southern Pacific Rail Road for twenty six years then with Crittenden County Sheriffs Office for fifteen years.
He also coached Baseball and Football for many years in West Memphis Youth Leagues he also enjoyed Bowling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bart Bridges and Ellen Smith Bridges, two sisters, Opal Mae Duncan and Georgia Lee Nelson a brother, Carey Blue Bridges.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Vaughn Bridges of West Memphis, AR; three sons, William Eugene Bridges Jr. (Sharon) of Memphis, TN; Byron Vaughn Bridges (Lidiane) of Haymarket, VA; Gregory Mark Bridges (Ting) of Bryant, AR; and four sister, Wildean Wynne of Saint Simon, GA; Helen Marotti of West Memphis, AR; Betty Genee Smith and Mary Katherine Gresham both of Germantown, TN; five grandsons, Zack, Carson, Matthew, Benjamin, and Nathan, his first granddaughter Grace is due in December.
So sorry to find out about Gene. Bill Slinkard messaged me today, 7-10-21, and asked if I knew where Gene was. After the Union Pacific bought the Southern Pacific, a lot of us, unfortunately, lost contact with each other. Gene was a really nice guy and a pleasure to work with.
So sorry for your loss, praying for all of you!
